Re: People shouting 'left' 'right' etc on a cylce path whilst approaching from behind

Uunfortunately it's a growing problem in a get out of my way selfish society.I would take the middle of the path in an ffort to slow these morons down and as guard against going in the drink,I would also recommend a rear view mirror to keep an eye out for errant idiots such as these. I have done ex...

Ride in the middle, as that should result in the faster approaching rider having
to slow down to pass you safely.

Re: Boy with no helmit has severe accident

The image/story has gone. Have there been studies showing that more lives could be saved by wearing helmets in cars? Serious Q, as I would have thought much the same issues as are in play regarding cycle helmets would also apply - or would this also include use of Hans devices to avoid the addition...

Re: New Pump

The Zefal HPX only has a dimple for a pump pip in the top of the handle. Consequently you would only be able to mount a Zefal HPX with the bottom of the pump in the junction of the seat tube and top tube, and it has a rather angular protruding valve lever on which I think you would run the risk of ...

Re: Keeping your brain alive in retirement - what do you do?

I'm learning to play a double bass. I'm currently a member of a small local orchestra. At the moment I have extra pressure on me, as I'm the only bassist and most of the members are of a higher standard than me; thus, I have to practice extremely hard to keep up with them. Regularly learning new pie...

Re: Living without owning an internal combustion engine

Bmbzzzbmbib, or whatever - thank you for your response. We do have mains electricity and water, so not 'off-grid' in that sense. As with most rural properties in France our waste water goes into a pit. No telephone line, and no mobile either - in an absolute emergency (leg falling off, broken spoke...

Re: Audax Bike (Spa?) with Tourer Gearing & Double vs. Triple

Having to do delicate little trims is more of an irritation at 1am cycling along a deserted A40 somewhere between Brecon and Chepstow, with 300k+ in your legs and a body that wants to get to the end of the ride. If it is very cold you will have gloves on your hands, making it an effort to do a litt...

Re: Ride London - Does it help the cause of cycling?

The thing about this ride is that you have to raise cash for a charitible cause (happy to be corrected). :)
I wish they'd just let people pay an entry fee and ride the dam thing.
