Road tyres...
...the VIttoria Rubino seems to be being retired, as it's getting less and less available and Wiggle lists it as no longer available. I've got the slick version on a the moment in 23mm and it's no good for winter as its grip isn't great and it punctures slightly more easily than a Tesco Value bin ba...

Re: How a short rotund person (me) can keep legs warm in winter.
Feel your pain. I have a long back; I'm 5'11 and have a 30" inside leg. Even proper cycling shirts ride up and leave me with a bare patch on the small of my back, especially on road bikes. Bib tights aren't made with enough space in the top so I can feel the shoulder straps straining. If I get ...

Re: 100 mile a day commute?
IME, even the eventual sub 20 miles each way is more than a no brainer. This isn't simply a matter of how far/ fast you can ride a bike: they are relatively minor factors; it's more about the time involved on the same route day after day. Particularly in winter, when rain seems to multiply the punc...

Re: Residents parking
The councils in my area spend lots of taxpayers money trying to encourage use of public transport. . I'm sure they do. They do around here as well. It's still impossible for Mrs KarlT to get to work (15 miles away) in less than 2 hours by public transport. We could move nearer, but then I'd have a ...

Re: Want to buy a bike
You can buy mailorder through Decathlon, but the normal thing would be to buy from the physical store.

Re: Want to buy a bike
I will be buying a bike shortly and not too sure what to get. I got £350 so should be able to get something good but dont really know what I am supposed to be looking out for. Any advice on this for someone new to cycling? Gosh username - you've asked a big question. Cycling is a very broad church ...

Re: Want to buy a bike
Recumbents would need a 0 on the end of your budget, so you're looking at the lower end of uprights.
Decathlon is an excellent place to start, but you need to establish what you want to do on the bike and thus what sort of bike you want.

Sounds like a lot of Dosh but to be honest if it's someone who's got to have some vision and inspire action (look, we can hope, OK?) then it's not at all out of the ball park, especially in That London.
Other than that it's Wait and See.

Re: Don't bother in South Yorkshire
Well, I've emailed their contact email. If I don't get anywhere there I shall try the PCC. Though I suspect I won't get very far there either.

Don't bother in South Yorkshire
http://www.cyclesheffield.org.uk/2016/12/15/south-yorkshire-police-response-to-our-request-to-adopt-a-close-pass-initiative/#comment-238798 They basically don't give a [inappropriate word removed] about the terrible driving around here. They're not going to do anything about it, so go away. I intend...

Re: Planet Bike Air Kiss CO2 Bicycle Inflator woes
I think I've got it. I found this in an Amazon review. When you are through inflating the tire, do not just spin off the cartridge, if it is still pressurized unless you fully expel all of the gas you can get a nasty surprise (like a pop and losing the internal gasket and hollow puncture tip - into...

Re: 10 speed Double for commuting?
Am I unusual in only using three or four ratios in over twenty years of commuting? Not against ten speed kit but do you really use so many different ratios? I know I do. There are hills around here that can have you down to 3-4mph, and descents where you can be going over ten times that speed. And ...

Re: Vehicles parked on cycle lanes
Lay a bike on the pavement outside their office, chained to a nearby piece of street furniture so they can't move it. Refuse to take it away until they agree to stop blocking the highway. They would just drive over it. I was thinking more in terms of making it rather hard for pedestrian access to t...
