I think whoever wrote the branding materials is a little naive. I'm no longer a CTC member so I can use CUK. If I was a member I would still use CUK.
Why? Because I hate being told what to do. ( I see now why I was expelled from school) [emoji1]

And me, nobody told me I couldn't use it so I will.

Re: The Rebrand is Essential to our Future

To be honest I expected this after the formation of the charity. At first the club was run alongside the charity but we couldn't expect that to continue. Now we have a hostile takeover with members of the club being sidelined. Unfortunately the charity income will reduce and if the membership numbers drop they will struggle for funds.

This has already happened to Sustrans. Now their routes have chuggers on them.

If you really can't find anything good to say, it might be worth asking yourself if you are being just a teensy bit close minded?

Also whether you're being a bit rude, having been asked very politely to be positive here!

thank you.

It's unusual for me but for once I'm stuck for words.
Sorry

Re: Name Change

I'd be interested to know exactly how much they paid Campfire for the rebranding. I won't get to find out though as I ceased to be a member with effect from 1st November 2015.

Not forgetting that that Councillor was an active and willing part of the process of rebranding for at least two years including supporting the Campfire proposals last October until his epiphany after he failed to get re-elected as a Councillor and had to step down on 1 January this year.

Unless of course you believe his claims of a multiyear conspiracy to ignore his comments and falisfy the meeting minutes to censor his strident opposition in Council

I believe Philip's claims Tony. I have been a National Councillor. Sadly I had to resign from my position due to my husband becoming terminally ill. But I clearly recall voicing my opinion and disagreeing with some items of business and then being ridiculed or shut down during meetings and there being no mention of my points recorded in the minutes.

Well that one seems to allow children so I don't see an issue. From my brief glimpse (hideously slow website wouldn't let me see much) it looks like a nice community group, the like of which I believe may well end up the mainstay of club cycling (non-racing) in the future.

I've looked at the community group you mention Si and I agree that it may be the way forward for non-racing groups.

I have been trying to find out if the group I'm riding with next weekend are still affiliated to The CTC. It seems that they are now affiliated to British Cycling instead. I will ask why on Sunday.

Re: New cycling club for S Birmingham, Worcestershire & Warw

I'm late to this discussion but would like to say something regarding under 18 riders or lack of them.

In my experience a club will not be "signing their own death warrant" by excluding minors. That has been said about groups for years, but more in relation to lack of young riders replacing the older ones. The cycling group local to me has had no young riders for years but the numbers riding have been steady/increasing. Many new members are between 35 and 55 years of age and ride with the group for a long time. Unfortunatey cycle touring is no longer popular with young people so allowing them to ride with a club is not going to swell the numbers.

With new people joining our local group at regular intervals they compensate for the inevitable leavers. Plus the fact that new riders don't have to join CTC means it will be a more attractive proposition for some to join an affiliated club.

As already mentioned CTC has no jurisdiction over an independent club affiliated to them.
