Re: Your enjoyable UK cycling tour recommendations please

Recently , over the past year i've done a mixed bunch of but interesting multi day 'treks, the most arduous was the Great Glen Way from Inverness down to Fort William linked by train to to Rannoch Moor (amazing views) and then biked down to finish at Perth. Brilliant scenery and much offroad or minor roads. If you take a rest day in Fort W. you also get the opportunity to take the impressive steam train excursion to Mallaig.

Actually thinking about it the South Downs way I did this May was the most strenuous. How could I forget that. By the way I saw a uni-cyclist whizz past me whilst I was having a drink stop - his arms were flailing in all directions , presumbly to maintain balance - I never caught him up.

A much more gentle one but really interesting was the Severn and Thames Valley cycle route as per Gloucester- Bristol - Bath using the Gloucester -Shaprness canal towpath , later following part of Kennet Avon canal - then I chose to go north to Chippenham/calne onto the 'downs' /Avebury /Marlboro then thru' Savernake Forest to Newbury where I was picked up by dutiful wife. Lovely peaceful riding much off road trails and minor roads with minimal traffic.

and to come this Sept , the Way of the Roses.... looks like a few hills.
