Re: Braking distance on a bike

Roughly

Dry - 10-11m
Wet 15-17m
Ice 75-80m

Add or subtract a suitable percentage based on slope. For instance 30mph to stopped is a shorter distance if going up a 15% hill. Plus the rubber in your tyres and the temperature impact upon this etc.

Re: Tool Kit for day to day use

I'm amazed at what people are suggesting be carried around day to day on the bike. Bottom bracket tool, spare spokes, cassette removal tool for day to day riding? I'd just carry enough around for the bolts, usually covered by 2-8mm Allen keys. Plus puncture repair, spoke key and chain tool. A few zi...

Re: Weather to ride or not ?

I'm not a fair weather rider so mostly I'll head out if that's what I planned. Even a minimal couple of hours in the rain leaves you feeling refreshed and ready for the rest of the day. Even on icy days choose the right roads and you'll have a mostly ice free days and on sunny days much of it will b...

Re: Training Plan for Prudential Ride

Not sure how limited places means you have to train hard to succeed ? It's not clear who your plan is aimed at. Is this someone who has sat on their backside till 5 weeks before the event.? Steady usually just means constant effort not necessarily slow. If a rider is new to a training plan and if us...

Re: How far is plausible in one day?

Velomobile world record is just over 1200km in 24 hours. Upright bike is 896km in 24 hours set in last couple of days. Most audaxers who ride 400km events will complete them in less than 24 hours. Time trials many will target 600km in 24 hours. Amanda Coker's year record attempt she's averaging abou...

Which would rule out sportives and just leave road or MTB races I guess.

Re: Cyclists not prosecuted enough!

One has to consider whether on the balance of probabilities presumed liability makes our roads safer for vulnerable users. The evidence says it does where it's been implemented. Arguments about, hey I might be out of pocket by a small amount on rare occasions (and if they are not rare you shouldn't b...

By your 5 minute definition everyone who identifies themselves as a cyclist out there will qualify.

Re: Endurance Athlete Survey

I started the survey but the second question says which sports do you complete in. I take part in audax which is non competitive long distance cycling. So we don't compete. We do however take part in cycling events that can take place over multiple days and may involve cycling anything up to 20 hour...

Re: Endurance Athlete Survey

5 mins of cycling is not an endurance event, that's still in the warm up phase.

If the bloke in the car wasn't always driving around 3 abreast it'd be fine.

27kg's what the hell are you carrying a spare bike? You can do the ride with a lot less, many do on audax rides of much greater length and time. Or take look at what people were carrying on the transcontinental or trans am. Less really is more.

Re: Many Birds One Stone 3RD Time 24H Lucky Or Not....

Try riding slower to hit the 500km in 24 hours. You don't need to beast yourself to hit that target and beasting yourself will hit your ability to digest your food.
