Re: Fed up getting abuse from other roas users

My comment came from my own 50 odd years of riding the old way, slowest traffic to the left of the road and find 99.9% of other road users give me plenty of room and indeed consideration. I've never been hit by a motor vehicle and find the most unpredictable and dangerous moments have come from oth...

Re: Fed up getting abuse from other roas users

Incidentally, the truck driver who passed the camera bike was clearly also less than amused and was doing his own bit by indicating left, moving into the LH lane and braking, perhaps to punish the camera bike by slowing him? After these incidents the camera bike was closer to the LHS of the road, s...

Re: Fed up getting abuse from other roas users

I'm suspicious that those who carry cameras frequently have these problems because of their riding style, Do you have the evidence to prove that? When you carry a camera you film not just other road users behaviour, but you own as well. I'm quite prepared to let you trawl through the last 6 months ...

Re: Fed up getting abuse from other roas users

Here's an example of cyclist abuse at it's finest http://metro.co.uk/2014/01/16/video-hunt-for-motorcyclist-who-tried-kicking-ordinary-cyclist-off-bike-and-into-passing-traffic-4266398/ My opinion.. Firstly make it obvious which side you want traffic to pass, since the motorbiker had enough room to...

Re: Speed Limits. Do they apply to cyclists ?

The normal speed limits don't apply to pedal cycles, but there are byelaws in at least one Royal Park in London where cyclists have been prosecuted for speeding. If a cyclist were to be riding at a big speed there are other offences eg furious cycling. (I know that one of the cycling websites says ...

Re: Dover to ...? 3 Weeks Inspiration?

Now, stephenjubb , cycling around my home nations has always had an appeal. I'm always getting told the UK has great things to offer, but living in London my whole life, have often been secluded in inner city living without any cycling experience of the 'real' British and Irish landscape. One thing...

Re: Dover to ...? 3 Weeks Inspiration?

Max, how about Gibraltar? Recced this route in 2011, 1300miles if you subtract the channel, 20 days riding with an overnight on the ferry. Rest as you wish, but plan was a day in SW France and a day in Segovia. Did Venice last year so haven't been back to ride it, but it's still on the list somewher...

Re: Touring saddles

I have a Swift titanium.. It broke in quickly thanks I suspect to having thinner hide than a b17. Double edged sword of course because it also sags more, putting bending load into the nose bolt. This has snapped twice now [genuine Brooks bolts], now replaced with a 13.9 capscrew machined to fit, it ...

Re: Man and van to move bikes in France

This is probably a very, very long shot but worth asking ..... We have a Boy's Outing in June and need to get 12 bikes from Calais to Tours in the Loire Valley on a Monday .... TGV trains and bikes are fraught - some have spaces, some don't - and if they do it's only a few - to say nothing of havin...

Re: Cycling through Italian mountain tunnels

My turn to be caught out... You seem to be a different Andy to the one who started this thread? Confusing, at least for me... Co-incidentally I was also on the Gavia just a couple of days before you were there, doing support car driving for another group, who used the very same snow bank as a photo-...

Re: Cycling through Italian mountain tunnels

This is the entry to the Gavia tunnel, you can see the old road on the right, guessing you must have taken this https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Passo+di+Gavia,+Ponte+di+Legno,+BS,+Italia&hl=en&ll=46.331788,10.488918&spn=0.008667,0.01929&sll=52.699986,-2.775607&sspn=0.015214,0.0385...

Re: Cycling through Italian mountain tunnels

- in very many cases where a tunnel has been built the old road has been abandoned but is still rideable. These are almost never signed (all you might see is a red circle on white road closed to traffic sign, but local riders use them; I don't recall any tunnel on the road fro Santa Caterina to the...

Re: Assault.

There are areas of the world where people kill each other every day seemingly without remorse. We hear that in our own world wars 5% of conscripted soldiers did 95% of the killing, the rest cannot bring themselves to do it. So remove the legal scenario of killing in a war and keep the same spread of...

Re: cycling from Budapest to Krakow

A load of bull on this topic. Poland is grand. I have lived here for 20 years, and whenever I have felt blue, it's down to personal shiite. Just like anywhere else. But of course - blame it on the locals. LOL. If you're getting all 'right-on' about my comments on the driver who actively blocked us ...

Re: cycling from Budapest to Krakow

I did the ride in the opposite direction back in August 2005. The Tatras are a national park and deliberately don't have any minor through roads, however when I did it the roads were not what I would call busy, but obviously increased wealth in Eastern Europe has probably multiplied car ownership si...
