Tyre for winter use : Recommendation

Hi, I have schwalbe one 700x28c tyres on my bike. The bicycle shop recommended I change them from Autumn for the winter. I would be grateful for a few tyres that you like (I won't be cycling in snow), nor on ice. Would like the tyres to be not > 350g and reasonable price too. Schwalbe Supreme's were...

Re: soft cycling jacket (please recommend)

Hi, I have renewed my interest in this topic, i hope that's okay. I prefer the look of the Rohan jackets over the road cycling specific ones like Gore Phantom. If I bought a Rohan (nearly) windproof jacket like the Pampas or Windshadow, then I would also need to take a waterproof layer incase of hea...

Re: Thorn Audax upgrades

I have the 853 fork, and my understanding is it's around 800g, compared to the standard fork of 1.1kg - so around 300g. From the Thorn Mega PDF : Standard Fork "960g with steerer cut to 300mm". 853 Fork : "805g with steerer cut to 300mm". Difference of 155g with length at 300mm....

Re: Thorn Audax upgrades

If more comfort is important to you then the 853 fork is worth it. I would really like to have the 853 fork, but it is expensive. I don't need the rack and mudguard lugs. I read the Thorn PDF and I think I would save no more than 170g over the standard fork. Can you quantify how more comfortable it...

Re: Thorn Audax upgrades

I use Kool stop brake pads on Shimano R650 57mm Drop brakes - I'm happy with them, but have nothing to compare to.

Re: Thorn Audax upgrades

I'm glad you like your Thorn better.
I don't have the 853 fork on mine as were sold out when I ordered my bike. Would now cost £230 for a new one, I'm not sure it's worth that ?
I didn't know you can order a shorter stem - does that give a more than sporty position ?

Re: Thorn Audax upgrades

Frame size is 550, I'm 5'7.5 and fits me ok, though I have asked Thorn to check my setup from photos of me travelling at speed on the bike. Yes rack is narrow, but light of course. I have a side pannier on at the moment. I'm happy with the bar end shifters as have these on my Galaxy. Barend shifters...

Re: Thorn Audax upgrades

Here is a photo of my audax. I do like it, though i've never owned a road bike so can't compare with those. More comfortable than my Dawes Galaxy 2003.

Re: Which Cycle computer?

Thanks for help. As someone here said, I'm sure most computers are equally reliable and provide similar basic functions. I opted for the Specialised wired sport computer, because it was recommended here, is in my budget and seems to have a couple of features not available normally that may turn out ...

Re: Which Cycle computer?

Maybe I should opt for wired, if the wireless aren't as reliable. The specialized one looks quite good, though I would like a back light. Grumblings with the Aldi one were : poor back light and display text not large enough. I would like avg speed, max speed, trip dist, trip time, back light, clear ...

Which Cycle computer?

Hi, I would like some suggestions for cycle computers you like. I bought an Aldi computer and apart from the back light not being bright enough to read the computer in the dark it performed fine, however, after 6 months it has stopped working. Well the display and temperature an time etc work , but ...
