... a good book ?

on cycling (there's a surprise!).

Would like a true story book that tells an interesting/exciting story and in the background explains how the Tour De France works or other factual stuff.

Thank you,

Alastair

Re: Magazine

I've never been a member before though I am seriously thinking of joining the CTC esp. if I commute more frequently. I had a look at their prices and read about £40 for a single adult. I must be out of touch. I expected it to be about £25 to £30. Seems a bit pricey, but maybe it's fair. Back to my p...

Where to buy a bicycle?

Hi, I have a Dawes Galaxy touring bike which I use to commute to work (6 miles each way). I'm thinking of buying a lighter bike to make my commute easier (then I could use it more days per week rather than each alternate day). I am thinking of a road bike or maybe an audax bike or something else (op...

Magazine

Although I have cycled now and again throughout my life, I have never bought a cycling magazine. I'm looking for one with : news, interesting articles, perhaps DIY snippets, classifieds (used cycles and parts), preferably the writing would be straightforward no nonsense as it is style stories , advi...

Re: Commuter bike recommendation

Pedalspinner, thanks for your interesting post about the N7. I popped into my LBS yesterday and asked about swapping the wheels on my Galaxy to thinner lighter ones. No be a notable difference, and therefore worthwhile, the staff said I'd need to spend about £300. They recommended I buy a new road b...

Re: Commuter bike recommendation

Hypocacculus, Thanks for your reply. I have just started to cycle to work, though I used to do cycle before. I just found I got too tired for thinking at work. Today was the second day I have cycled for some months. I am sitting in the office now and feel tired, but hopefully I will have a good day....

Re: Commuter bike recommendation

But I stand by my comments about training! I made a mistake, I'm 11 stones, 5'7", 45yrs and reasonably fit. However, unfortunately I do have Bipolar Disorder and need to take lithium daily. I work in an office and today I cycled slowly there and it took me about 1 hour to recover enough to do ...

Re: Commuter bike recommendation

2. Depending on your rims, you might be able to just put lighter tyres on. If you change your wheels, it is more of a case of how much do you want to spend? Wheel advice abounds in the forum, you could try doing a search. However, at your current weight, don't go too light! I'm 12 stones. Just look...

Re: Commuter bike recommendation

I like Bromptons, but I don't need a folder for my commute.
Thanks anyway,

Re: Commuter bike recommendation

Thanks for your comments. My ride to work is mainly flat. I have a very slight buckle in my rear wheel which I can feel slightly. Thought of doing this myself but I have no experience. If I change the tires and wheels to something lighter , roughly how much would that cost and how easy would it be? ...

Re: Commuter bike recommendation

Thank you for everyone's replies. I'll answer some of your questions: I do prefer a pannier to carry my gear , but would be willing to try a backpack if that would be worthwhile. I carry a change of clothes for my work and sandwiches and pump and cycle lock and spare inner tube - about 4-5 kgs tops ...

Commuter bike recommendation

Hi, I cycle on a Dawes Galaxy Tour bike to work 12 mile round trip on roads. I think my bike is heavy (must be around 14kg with pannier rack) and I think makes it harder going, so I'm thinking of a lighter bike. Can you recommend one ? Light, with a good range of gears and probably drooped handlebar...
