Re: Dog walkers or horseriders?

At least dog-owners have learnt to either pick up the product or get their dogs to crap on the verge. Not so the haughty horsegit:

Re: Handlebar Height

Rough rule of thumb is to set it at the same height as the saddle - once you've got the saddle height right, of course...

Re: A funny kind of tea shop?

BTW, and in direct reference to the thread title, don't forget that the coffee-houses of the 18th/19th century were where much governmental policy was shaped. They not infrequently had brothels upstairs, too.

Re: A funny kind of tea shop?

Right again Ben, what can be done about the accursed thread drift? Better moderation? Forget about it. I used to belong to a forum where the moderators would better be described as whippers-in, after those fox-hunting bods whose job is to drive errant hounds back into the pack. It got so blo...

Re: Honking on turbo, does it accelerate fitness?

Conventional wisdom says small gear and spin = lose weight, big gear and push hard = build muscle. Fitness should follow either way.

Re: Use of cycle lanes / paths

In France we have two categories of cycle path, obligatory and optional. It's a truism that the obligatory ones are usually of such abysmal quality that if they weren't obligatory nobody would use them. Of course, if the flic says to use either variety it's immediately obligatory. I have a chum who ...

Re: The tool you bought that proved a revelation ??

Away, away back, the router. Not that black box that ushers in the voluminous idiocy of the Internet (present company excepted, of course) but the gadget that deafens you and covers you in chippings while doing wondrous things to bits of wood. That, and the two-sided diamond stone which, with a leat...

As a chum observed, let's all head for Egypt and tear down the pyramids, which were built with slave labour.

Re: Cannot adjust index gears satisfactorily

Make sure your RD idling pulleys aren't worn down. I was having a hell of a time puzzling over my main mount until I noticed that the tensioning (bottom) pulley was worn down to nubs and the chain was riding off it when I was on the smaller cogs. Replaced them last week and it's like new now, silent...

All metric for me. If I have to convert to miles I divide by 9, multiply by 5 and add 32.

Re: artificial sweeteners; are they poison?

If all you had on getting home was a sugar-free drink, I'd think that you gave yourself a hefty dose of hypoglycaemia. The sweetness would trigger a release of insulin that would drive down your blood sugar. The release of insulin is driven by glucose concentration outside the relevant pancreatic c...

Re: Freedom!

A mere youngster! Yeah... when I was 70 ah never mind. Suffice to say that after our 2-month no-cycling-at-all lockdown my condition has gone to hell and doesn't want to come back, at least it drags me down with it when I try to reach 100k. Heigh ho. Train slowly. Nothing as effective as it. Fast t...
