I almost sent them a cheque for £0.00. :D

I'd love to see what the banks did.

Cash it, they cash everything:

Re: The best front light ever? £ for output

That depends if the battery last more than 30 mins and if its waterproof. Would like to hear how it gets on though. Plus some pictures of the output ;)

The irony is that the sort of people who could get into Linux are the people least likely to click on stuff they shouldn't ;)

My Gran uses Linux, I'm sure anyone else could too ;)

Don't find myself in too many clubs but if you're at the front, you can lean on the speakers and feel yourself being pushed up with the beat. I'm sure my hearing fine ;)

Re: Advice needed: e-security best practice

Big report abuse button. Not sure that it is required but when I was part of developing the intranet when I was at school, we had one put in but that was possibly just advised rather than a must. Remember that once someone signs up, you are in control of their "data" and you are responsible for protecting it.

Pft... excuses, load them servers tall and high...

I think I'm lucky in a sense that my car is hundreds of miles away from me. I have to cycle to uni whatever the weather, whatever the load. In fairness, never servers. Although I don't have a rack. Everything goes on my back.

Re: Western Islanders' disappointing "advice" for cyclists

Really? I think given it is a single track lane, bikes could quite happily go both ways so really it's the cars in the way, they can wait ;)

It is usually done by 'ninja-style' cyclists.

I do sometimes rlj but sorry I will not stand at an unchanging traffic light n sub zero temps at 05.30am waiting for a car to arrive to trigger the change.
Likewise the other evening when at 10.30, late off work and stood in rain, lights Preston garrison were not changing and there was not a car insight in any direction!
On these occasions I always treat the junction like a regular give way check it is clear and proceed.

I would not attempt it during the day time when these junctions are very busy.

I cycle home at 1am and encountered a set of lights that stay at red from all directions until a car is detected even though there is a cycle lane. I reported it to the council and a few months later it now cycles through all the options if no-one is about. Its amazing what can happen if you bother to tell the council about an issue rather than just jump the lights and moan about it to yourself.

Who did you contact? I'm in a similar situation where I cycle in the bus lane and if there is no bus or taxi near, the lights don't change. This happens in the daytime too unfortunately.

If you look at it in context. The first sentence is in reply to the post above mine. Then the next is a new topic. But you already knew that...

Re: London Cyclists

In Bristol most of the people I see go through lights. I sit firmly at the lights. In fact, whilst cycling down Gloucester Road, I had stopped at the lights due to someone crossing and a car came past me almost hitting the woman crossing.

Re: Negotiating a roundabout – could I have done it better

Depends on the nature of the shouting. In the rain today, someone pulled out on me. I slammed the brakes on, skidded whilst shouting the f word. I couldn't help it, it just came out. I'd personally steer clear of shouting after an incident though. What's it going to gain, right?

I had an "off" due due to an incorrect set up. Wheel slightly out of shape and inner tube not seated. Tyre came off along with me. Make sure you give 'em a once over. Or a full service before riding :|

Re: I was shot at in Hull this evening

This is the real reason for ninja cyclists then? To avoid being shot at. Off with the hi-viz and lights. Cycling in all black from now on ;)

On a more serious note, glad you didn't get hit. Hope they get caught.
