I'm still at the stage in my cycling of trying to plan my route so that it has no roundabouts and no right turns on busy roads.

Re: Help With Cycling Technique
I've got one or two stories about Bruce Morgan (the stipendiary Magistrate/District Judge in question) - he can be an absolute scream at times. But you've no need to fear him - he retired at the start of the summer.

I think that Kevin's hit the nail on the head. I know that after starting cycling a few weeks ago, I've become a lot more aware of cyclists on the road (I like to think that I was pretty aware before, but I'm beginning to wonder). They were always there, of course, but I'm noticing them more now because I'm looking for them. Most car drivers aren't.

Re: Purposefully paved with broken glass
I wondered about this.
I rode 2/3rds of what would be my commute into Birmingham by bike for the first time on Saturday, and thought to myself "blimey, there's a lot of broken glass on this path" - it was almost everywhere where the route went off the roads and through parkland. I couldn't decide if the locals who lived nearby were very, very clumsy and bad at clearing up after themselves or if some bright spark thought that broken glass would be a good way of adding grip at the same time as reusing the glass. Daft, either way. I've resolved to buy some *very* thick tyres if I start doing the journey for real.
