Re: What do do about members group refusing to follow nat po

As a previous ride leader, I would not accept a junior on any of my rides unless they were with a parent.
HQ decided that all ride leaders should accept juniors, so I stopped leading rides.
I am/was a 'volunteer' - not an 'employee' of CTC - this is/was my perogative.

I used to ride with the Forty Plus CC, most of them were nearer 80 than 40. :D

Re: My legs hurt

I'm late to this party, but I hope you're still going out.
I live at the top of a (300ft) climb back home, & that has been very off putting, but if you persevere it will come good.
Enjoy your cycling, weight will go, but not very fast, however fitness will increase more rapidly.

Re: Cheap simple cycling.

Well now, cheap simple cycling used to be an old raleigh single speed, did a few miles on that as a kid.

Went the handbuilt route when I could afford it, must admit it was a nice ride, but at twice the cost of an 'off the shelf' bike of equivalent specs, decided that I was 'average' & that an 'average' bike would do next time.

After being away from 'serious' cycling for some years, I now ride £600 machines, they do all right for my capabilities, however, one of my 'fleet' is a single speed & I can't wait to get my fitness level up so that I can 'ride' it properly (i.e. hoping to get back to the occasional 100 miler).

So whilst not particularly cheap, it will certainly be simple. :D

I would say Exmoor, fantastic cycling & scenery, but it does make you work!

Re: Cycling ASBO

As we get older we prefer peace & quiet more & more because we have to cope with so much daily noise.
Are the kids making a racket in the evenings? Why not ride earlier & do homework later?
Do they ride outside your house,or the other kids' parents' houses, if not, why not?
Lots of things to consider......

Re: Tamworth - Obesity capital of the UK

Obesity is caused by eating more than your body needs to function.
It is the lack of exercise that is the main trouble.
Eat less & exercise more.

Re: Frame Angles

In terms of comfort, it depends on how you intend to ride the bike.
Those are what used to be termed a sports bike's angles, lively enough steering without getting toe overlap.
It will be good for all kinds of day rides & also for moderate prolonged touring.
If you intend having front panniers you may have to put more effort into keeping it in line.
Other points to consider are chainstay length, short for a good climber, long for stable loaded touring.

Re: Oh dear again ...

Somewhere in the clamour to have a new web site they lost a database, as I've had to re-register with H.Q., & then had to go to the Forum & log in with my old details, to have to change my password to the new one. Yes, it told me my user name was in use already, of course is - it's mine, but wouldn't let me login, because my registration with H.Q. had been lost.

Re: Drifting out of membership

Thankfully, the club managed to know that I am a member, but lost everything else about me it would seem, when they 'upgraded' the web site & forum (?).

I was going to offer my advice on something, but couldn't get it to accept my login & password. Now I don't remember what the topic was!

A database is a database, its only job is to store data so that it can be retrieved quickly, where did the old database go (?!), with my info, & probably yours too.

I didn't even know that we no longer have D.A.s! Presumably something to do with now being a 'charity'. Who knows what else has changed since we were a 'club'.

Late to the debate, but I think I signed a form stating that I would not have children on my rides.

I lead rides voluntarily, if someone, even the club, tells me that I have to take other peoples children, then I will no longer lead any rides, full stop!

If parents want their children to go on a ride then supply a guardian if you can't go yourself.

Re: Maps, paper or electronic?

I've just bought a custom OS map for my new cycling area; would have had to carry 4 OS maps to cover the bits I will be cycling.
Like to see the whole area that I shall be cycling through, &, if it looks better 'on the ground', I will change my route.
Have thought about electronic, would want OS as I'm so used to contours & features on them, but am put off by the small size of the screens.
Maybe if I was just travelling from A to B, but I tend to vary my routes as I ride, else if I know my route/area, I don't need a map.

Re: The Cyclist's High?

dougie wrote:Anyone who runs will either have heard about, or experienced, the Runner's High. While it can be described in many different ways, it can be summarised as a wonderful feeling of well-being, a euphoric top-of-the-world sensation.
Even after a hard fast bike ride, for me, it doesn't seem to feel the same as when I run.
So, does anyone know if the Cyclist's High exists at all?

Maybe you should try time trialling, when you beat your personal best gives a buzz.
Or, try offroad riding, various terrains give you a different kind of buzz.
Track cycling; sprints, pursuit, etc.
There are lots of ways to get the buzz in cycling; Just try a few to see what works for you.
