i feel that a smaller wheel accelerates more easily for a given effort and would scrub more with that change in speed. pure observation only also makes me think that riders have a 'choppier' action on small wheeled bicycles. they seem to move up and down more and i equate that movement with more fle...

didn't a track kilo rider have some sort of two sprocket system?

IIRC one was a little loose and, as the bike accelerated, the chain dropped down to a smaller sprocket. not sure what happened to chain tension though!

i'll see if i can find some info somewhere.

not all 36 spoke wheels are the same. build quality? hub,rim & spoke combinations? good choices here will make a very reliable wheel. bad choices won't. i use 32 spoke wheels lots & could probably get away with using wheels with fewer spokes. then again on those bikes i'm merely now having a...

riding fixed would provide a solution. a touch of gentle back pressure every now and again would slow the bike easily down the tourmalet :wink:
