Re: NW London to Halifax Yorkshire

I would use the A6 as a start point but ride on B roads or minor roads that run parallel to it. May be more of a pain to navigate but a much more pleasnt option than riding on the A6 itself. A38 should be avoided at all costs. It's a dual carraigeway that links the M1 to Birmingham via Derby and ca...

is the 'cage' of the pedal in any way loose within itself?

are the pedal threads greased and tight in the cranks?

Re: testing cranks

after many years of use a TA right hand crank snapped clean across approximately an inch from the pedal leaving my right foot with an adjoining look pedal..!
don't want to do the same again whilst out of the saddle going uphill...!!

testing cranks

does anyone have any recommendations for testing cranks for potential problems/fractures? or do people change them regularly? as i'm sure many people do i have a set of cranks (stronglight escape type) that have seen use on a commuter bike for a decade or more. they've been stressed with plenty of h...

Re: Lidl and Aldi - how do they do it?

yes aldi buy stocks that are custom cleared into the uk 'at a price.' they also put products out to tender for forthcoming seasons i.e supply me 50,000 item 'X' then see who quotes cheapest with nearest the colours, quality etc. as for factories and clothing remember levi 501 jeans? the retail price...

mike burrows - short cranks

have just read an article about mike burrows making and using short cranks for 'normal' sizes bikes. 140 to 150mm sort of thing. what's he getting at with these? anyone ever used them? i suppose it takes a while to adapt to a different pedalling technique

Re: Tyre pressures.....

when race fit i'm 85kgs. at the mo i'm...er.....not race fit. tyres vary from 37c continental winters, schwalbe 28c marathons, 24c vittoria pave, 23c ultremos and 23c continental 4000s. i'll run the test on them all as /if the weather changes and see. and yeah i'm not far off...north of manchester w...

Re: Tyre pressures.....

no it's not quite that. saying that 70psi in a 28c PR special isn't going to get the same result as 70psi in a schwalbe 'xxx' 28c bog standard. i'll let some steam out of the tyres in my commuter bike and see what difference i can feel. the roads around here are about 40% gravel, 60% hole so i'll se...

Re: Tyre pressures.....

the article states that many of the tyres used by teams have stiffer casings than the norm so the pressures mentioned aren't a direct comparison to the sort of kit widely available that matches for size.

Re: Perceived prejudice against non steel frames.

Lager outsells champagne. Doesn't make lager a better drink, does it? cheers off topic, but there could be an argument for lager being a better drink than champagne I knew someone would say that... ... actually I had some 'Golden Hen' the other day and I shall have some another day too I thi...
