Re: Truvativ Touro chainset, any good?

If it uses an ISIS splined BB sell it as your BB problems start there, unless you're willing spend big bucks on an SKS BB. It is splined, I've already fitted it with a Truvativ bb. Are splined bb's problematic then? I'll get some copper-ease, sounds like a good idea. Just checked again, both are 175...

How do you get it back on once you've repaired the tube?

Truvativ Touro chainset, any good?

Anyone ever used these? Any good? Trying to decide wheather to put these on my tourer as i got them cheap off ebay (although new prices look quite high). Alternative is an XD2 chainset which I also have available, other considerations are the larger rings on the Truvativ and longer cranks, but tbh I...

Re: 26.2 bars with 26.0 clamp?

...................... A friend of mine recently tried to buy some handlebars with a sleeve and basically failed; apart from retro Cinellis (which I like BTW, but don't very well suit STIs and Ergos ) he found none.............. Nitto "noodles" have a sleeve. I like them, they are shallow...

Re: First Wheel Building Experience

Is that strained squeeky noise I hear when tightening the nipples the spokes twisting? or is that normal when its getting tight? .... What happens if the thread runs out? ..... Is this perhaps the cause of the noise I mention above? you can sometimes get a noise between the nipple and the rim, but ...

Re: First Wheel Building Experience

Is that strained squeeky noise I hear when tightening the nipples the spokes twisting? or is that normal when its getting tight? With my first set, which I haven't ridden yet as waiting to finish building the bike, I've stress relieved by pushing on the rim at different points with the axle on the g...

Re: Dating my Dawes Galaxy from Pictures

What size are the wheels/tyres? 27 inch or 700c? (should be an indication on the tyre if not the rim itself).

Also only one bottle cage mount.

Confused as to why only 531 and not the ST tubeset?? Were earlier Galaxy's not ST?

I would hazard a guess at early to mid eighties.

Re: Canti brake hanger

Ok thank you, I'll clamp it in nice and tight and see how we go - just hope it doesn't move in ride :)

Brucey, I'll take another look and see if can be done, I understand that these perform better so might be worth trying again.

Canti brake hanger

Any issues with filing off the tab on a 1inch brake hanger? For some reason my forks have the flat bit up front where all the hangers I find are at the back of the tube. I've filed one down and fitted it ok but wondering if this is generally safe to do so? I've also tried an 'uphanger' but the part ...

Re: Gears upgrade

Everyone has there own opinion but for me Tourney is just not worth buying. Alivio is lowest I use on my hybrid (chainset and rear mech) seems fairly solid and not overly expensive. I tried a Tourney front mech on a bike rebuild and it was made of cheese. I did use some Tourney shifters on one bike ...

Re: Short steerer tube

You mention 1990, I had a similar issue on my Randonneur of similar vintage, it had a Shimano 105 headset and i struggled to get a short enough replacement, but the Tange Passage did the trick, it's on the Velo Solo site as having the same dimensions as the Levin so can't remember why I went for the...

If it had been a shared use path I would have expected him to be there. I wonder how many pedestrians realize they are on a shared use path, and all of a sudden they all make way for cyclists and don't mind their presence. Sensible cyclists aren't a problem on paths, idiot cyclists are. I'm a trend...

Re: Advice needed, taking off a crank

I assume it's a square taper we're talking about? Can be quite tight, make sure plenty of threads are engaged on the outer bolt that attaches to the crank, then wind in the inner bolt till it stops, then get the biggest spanner you've got on it and give it some welly, watch those knuckles though! On...
