Last day of shorts...
Went for a 40miler last night north of Leeds up around Otley and Norwood Edge. All I can say is that it is definately the last time I'll be wearing shorts for this year!

Re: Touring wheels - advice please
Can I just say that I am actually quite shocked at how cheap a decent set of hand built touring wheels cost. I was expecting to have to pay in the region of £200 plus.

Re: Touring wheels - advice please
All this talk of spoke fatigue etc has given me the fear. I think I'll just get some built by Harry afer a discussion with what my requirements are, with his advice and experience thrown in I think it'll be well worth the money

Re: Touring wheels - advice please
Hi. If it is a long term, high mileage set you are looking for then please consider Terry Rowland. I bought a bike with them already fitted and have been sooooooo impressed (and Ive had a load of bikes and cycle a long way each year) They are incredibly well made, solid and smooth. Where would I ge...

Re: Using Mavic 501 hubs for touring
Thanks for that thirdcrank. I think the question probably can be changed to 'a good set of strong touring wheels'. The 501 hubs are very nice but I doubt I will use them as all my current bikes are cassettes and I'd like to continue the theme. There is a bike jumble near to me in a few weeks so I'll...

Re: Using Mavic 501 hubs for touring
It'd be 700c x 32 tyre. I could cold set the rear triangle but I'd rather just fit a 130 in as it's currently a 126. Not sure of the rim width but just standard (?), can go and measure in a few hours if required. I may wish to go a bit bigger on the tyres in future depending on terrain but I'm stick...

Re: Using Mavic 501 hubs for touring
Well basically I'm after a hub which has a cassette rather than screw on but had these in the draw and thought I would ask people's opion on using them for touring. When touring I usually have a full Super C set of panniers and a tent on the rear rack also, this puts a fair bit of strain on the rear...
