Re: Sealed BB drive side cup issue
The BB runs OK and the rest of the bike runs perfectly so I may take this course of action. Who knows, I may get lucky

In your experience Brucey can the threads be chased? Any idea how it may have happened?

Re: Sealed BB drive side cup issue
It's not that one as the sleeve is metal not plastic. Can't tell unless I take it apart. I hope to god someone hasn't threaded it 'backwards'?

Sealed BB drive side cup issue
Two posts in a week, what a faff!
After fixing my bike light I decided to give my commuter a bit of an overhaul/clean.
Unfortunately in doing so I discovered that the cup on the drive side (It's an octalink BB so the fixed side is on the left) was loose. No problem, I thought, I'll take off the crank and nip it up. It was then that I discovered that the thing is spinning freely in the shell with maybe 1mm at the most of lateral play. I can't tighten or loosen it so can't remove it.
1) How did this happen? I have just moved house so it may have gotten knocked in the removal van?
2) What do I do to fix it? In my mind the options are.
1. Glue it in place and leave it for the time being as it doesn't appear to be causing any issues
2. Glue it in place lightly and hand hacksaw the cup in three places. Hopefully threads will be OK but I could get it re-tapped
What is the general feeling on this?
Any advice greatly appreciated (as always!)

Re: Bike light battery replacement
Looks like I found the problem. Just pulled the circuit board a bit and the cables came straight out the end of the outer cabling and had been cut in two. Another job for the weekend!

Bike light battery replacement
Howdy. i recently bought a BBB BLS-63 front light set on ebay after seeing a post from someone pointing to it on here. The light has been pretty good but it has suddenly stopped working. Probably due to me slinging the battery pack over the handlebars instead of strapping it to the top tube as I was in a rush.
I'm a bit stuck now as i really don't want to throw the light away but am struggling to get a replacement battery pack for it which isn't from Germany and wont cost £70 + p+p. The battery is 2200mha 7.4v with a male connector. The battery fails to charge when connected, all soldering and wiring inside seems fine so I am guessing it may be a component on the small circuit board which could be knackered. The LED does light up slightly so that is fine I think.
Any ideas on what I can do? I have a soldering iron but am by no means an electrician.
Other option is getting a new light. I've had an Exposure Strada but after sending it back for repair 6 times I have given up on them

Re: Tandem 1 1/8" threaded headset advice
I've found a Kona impact headset on ebay for £30 (the ones with the allen key lock nut) so will give that a go. Looks pretty beefy!

Tandem 1 1/8" threaded headset advice
It's time to change our tandem headset to something which is going to take the knocks after our current one decided to give up the ghost. I am pretty hot on 1" threaded headsets but when it comes to 1 1/8" I don't know where to start! I'm not keen on spending a fortune so Chris King is definately not on the list. I assume there are a fair few 90s mountain bike headsets which will do although they now seem to carry the 'vintage' label so the prices seem a bit steep!?

New Grand Cru are fantastic and allow for a lot of adjustment. Looks great too. Can't recommend highly enough

This one, I think takes some beating!
'A man whom I assume is the owner has an entirely odd method of interacting with the public, condescending and rude, has mistaken the concept of needs analysis with interrogation and is further mistaken in believing that his knowledge of bicycles (whatever that may be) is as impressive and interesting to others as it is to himself, it is not. I visited with the intention of purchasing a vintage bike frame and was willing to pay a decent amount for the right item but within five minutes of having been interrogated, condescended to and subjected to a variety of sarcastic facial expressions one would expect from a child, I was already planning my exit strategy. At one point I actually asked, quite literally, if it would be possible for me to exchange money in return for goods or if there was some sort of special criteria or perhaps a test which needed to be passed first. If this little business is in some way tied in with charity or community then its quite sad that this individual is the face for that, very sad.'
Phew!
Easy to find if you know how
