Re: Ladies jackets

Altura do a purple one - I'd thought about getting it as it might look different from the sea of hi vis yellow you see in London during rush hour. I think it might only be in the lightweight Kinetic jacket though. However, it is pretty waterproof, but warm for a relatively thin jacket. I sweat like ...

Re: Public bike stand security

Covered Sheffield stands in an enclosed area, fenced off and covered and only accessible by a swipe card (which you pay a deposit for), are becoming more common across South West train stations. I don't know about other places, but there is a large one at Kingston upon Thames, and a couple of the ex...

Re: What is it with cycle shops?

I must be truly blessed in that there London - whilst the local bike shops are all chains close to the office in Victoria, I have had nothing but good service from Action Bikes and Cycle Surgery. I also got my current Brompton from Bikefix in Conduit Street, who were very helpful, and I certainly di...

Re: Best helmet colour?

Mine's black (a Met Commuter) - but has black reflective Moglo skull stickers on each side, which reflect against car headlights. It also has a rear flashing red LED, which I use when it gets dark. I'd imagine it is a good level for cars behind. I got some funny looks this morning when I debuted my ...

Re: Changes to Brompton design over the last few years

If it is etched and/or listed on BikeRegister (which the Met Police bike markers do) - then there is an option for the owner to 'transfer' the registration over. When you list on Bike Register, you can print off a log book. I guess a tea leaf would have to be pretty determined or very sly to go to t...

Re: LIGHTS FOR BROMPTON

Not necessarily the best - but I have the SSUN official Brompton front light. It changes brands depending on when you buy it (the one I bought later for hubby's Brompton was branded differently but the same light). I ride on lighted roads in town, but it would probably be okay as a back up LED. Init...

Re: Traffic calming, paint & ...

Funny how there is space to dedicate a whole lane (or merge two into one at some points, like Parliament Square), for the Olympics 'Zil' Lanes. You can bet the same old argument about not enough space will get trotted out again next time better cycle provision in London is discussed.

Re: Olympic Road race

Based on the test event last year, which I watched in Teddington (corner of Waldegrave Road/High Street/Park Road) - 15 seconds and its all over.

It will be nice to be part of the atmosphere - but you'll see more on telly.

Re: Olympics

There are plans by SWT to remove all bikes from their trains. Note the "Brompton Style" statement.... there are increasing difficulties taking any bike on SWT as if it does not fit in a luggage rack they can refuse Many larger folders are and have been effectively excluded by this Brompto...

Re: Olympics

I shouldn't think the narrowing of existing traffic lanes in London is particularly impressing anyone, either. On the Embankment, they have painted the ORN rings in the offside lane, but made the whole lane a lot wider, and narrowed the nearside lane. If the nearside lane is full of cars, there is l...

Re: Victoria station query

Iviehoff is right - platforms 16 to 19. I arrive at 07:50 in the morning into Victoria and the train at Platform 16 is going back out to Portsmouth and Bognor Regis. It is often a train that splits (at Horsham), so make sure you get in the right bit of the train. I work on Grosvenor Place, so one ro...

Re: Anyone use CS8 in London?

Thanks PRL. That's probably what I'll do as well - I'm in no hurry. Quite often if I am tired after work, I will cycle as far as Parliament Square and then get off and walk round a bit, then get back on, if I am not in the mood for the frantic lane swopping of taxis, motorbikes, buses and bicycles t...

Re: Anyone use CS8 in London?

Thanks Bob. I'm reasonably confident doing that in Parliament Square bizarrely, as there is loads of traffic, including lots of bikes. When I look at Chelsea Bridge from Victoria Rail Bridge in the morning, it looks like two solid lanes of traffic to the right of the blue lane, with little or no roo...

Anyone use CS8 in London?

I see lots of people using it on the Queenstown Road/Chelsea Bridge and Millbank section - as I am coming over the Victoria rail bridge of a morning. I was thinking of using it myself at some stage, but was worried about how the right turn from Chelsea Bridge to Millbank/Chelsea Embankment/Grosvenor...

Re: Which folder?

I'd suggest trying to lift and move the folded as part of your try before you buy. +1 If you go for the better ride of the Dahon buy their quick cover, a bag with a draw string over the open end you drop it over the folded bike and pull the stings, the saddle sticks through a slot in what would be ...
