A rather difficult trick for a pavement cyclist to perform, I would have thought.

Re: Getting your puncture fixed at the bike shop

The vids I saw weren't at all clear when I had problems with the chain tensioner. I only sussed it when I looked at another Brompton.

Isn't the point that not everyone wants to mend their own bike, and that there are people like me who will sometimes do bits but have no inclination or desire to do loads to their bike

Re: Getting your puncture fixed at the bike shop

It's not necessarily laziness, it can often be lack of confidence or aptitude. It took me ages to change the rear tyre and tube on my Brompton for example as the tyrewalls are quite stiff and the point at which it was all back together but the jockey wheel wasn't right (I needed to flip it over) made me wish I hadn't started. My local bike charity charges a fiver to change a tube and if I wasn't a skint student I'd let them do the next puncture even though I have done a couple more since that first Brompton puncture

Does your new phone actually have the ability to use ringtones? What model is it? And....I can't think what the Tour de France tune sounds like

Re: Most inventive insult when cycling

It doesn't necessarily kill the thread. It wasn't the obscenity that I thought good, it was the seldom used word tubby. Obscenities are too often exchanged whilst cycling. Clearly there must be some imaginative language or just plain funny exchanges

Re: Aldi - Crivit heart rate monitor watch

Thanks for that, I think I am currently being selective about the readings I want to believe :D . I still have it on and sat watching TV it shows 57bpm. I like that

Re: Critical Mass - type ride

Maybe you can contact other critical mass groups - have a look on Facebook for them and ask what their experience has been.

The Cardiff naked bike ride was last weekend and the organiser put a lot of work into it from his Facebook posts https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/194410707262234/

Is there something else you can do? Longer deadline? Something which celebrates cycling rather than the struggles we face?

Aldi - Crivit heart rate monitor watch

I bought a heart rate monitor/stopwatch watch with chest strap a few weeks ago from Aldi.

Has anyone else got one and if so how do you find it? I hadn't really used mine until today and noticed that cycling in a headwind at one point at a reasonable but not punishing pace on the flat, it showed 170bpm. At another point when I had been standing waiting for someone for 5 minutes it started bleeping madly and showing 214bpm.
Cycling home on a hillier route with stronger headwinds but lower speeds showed 140bpm approx

Any thoughts/suggestions? (I'm 42, overweight, moderately bike fit)

Most inventive insult when cycling

Cycling through the centre of Cardiff today, a pedestrian who was in no rush to cross the road as I was cycling towards him (I had a green light and he crossed on red at a pedestrian crossing) shouted at me '****** tubby'.
I thought the use of tubby was quite inventive. What is the best insult that has been screeched at you whilst cycling?

A University friend has had the honour of having a Facebook group started called "It's Always Ryan's Fault' so therefore it is his fault

The group is becoming international. A few cyclists blaming him for everything might be funny

Re: "Turning Left" recorded announcement by lorry

Did it do this though because it is outside of the driver's control. For example, it would be straightforward to make this part of the left hand indicator functionality by linking the on position to a speed check (for example through wheel ABS sensors). Therefore, if the lorry is stationery and the left indicator is on, it says this even if the vehicle has pulled in to a layby. Vehicle reversing warnings are surely just linked to a switch on the reverse gear as reversing lights are

I think I should ride the Brompton more too to truly appreciate how manoeuvrable it is and how quickly it can be ridden in cities :)

Just goes to show how quickly you can forget

Blimey that was hard

When I started cycling again last year I only had my Brompton 3 speed and went lots of places on it including a 40 mile ride on the hottest day of last summer. I felt invincible on it and pretty darn quick too.
My car was in for some warranty work today and so I put the Brompton in the boot and cycled the 4 miles or so back. Wow and I mean wow. How out of practice with the Brompton do I feel now? My other bike is a 27 speed road bike (Dawes Clubman, bought in February) which I have been using lots.

No real purpose to the thread but just shocked how different two bikes can feel
