Re: Garmin Base Camp

Base camp is an excellent good offline planning and routing tool which can be used with a variety of maps. Routing quality is dependent on map data and settings applied. Like all software you have to learn how to use it. @crossy..... If you are still having probs PM me with GPS details and I will he...

Re: OpenFietsMap Europa (=OpenCycleMap Europe)

Just as a reference for anyone who is beginning to use a GPS and later reading this thread... When using either OpenFietsMap or VeloMap/OpenMTBMap mapsets for route planning it is important to understand how software and the GPS preferences interact with the mapset and produce routing output. Here's...

Re: Maps for gps devices

....What advantage would installing the openfietsmap on the device give me? Nothing. You use 'ridewithgps' for planning and upload to GPS the track... If you install another Mapset such as OpenFietsmapn on the GPS then the same track will be displayed just the same - the map data and how it is disp...

Re: OpenFietsMap Europa (=OpenCycleMap Europe)

....Many thanks.... It was nothing, you're welcome... Can you outline your work flow in regards to this please a numpty crib sheet or bullets would be great As an example of using Mapsource & Basecamp and differing mapsets..... Here's a screen dump of Basecamp. With Openfietsmap (All Europe) lo...

Re: OpenFietsMap Europa (=OpenCycleMap Europe)

As I understand it... If you go to Maps on my version of Basecamp (the latest one) there is a function in the drop down menu called Install Maps. Is this by any chance a successor to Mapsource? It is a similar function but simplified within Basecamp. Mapsource will allow different tile images from d...

Re: OpenFietsMap Europa (=OpenCycleMap Europe)

I think you will find it will work fine on 8.1. I cannot be sure as I use it on W7 SP2 but I am fairly confident it will be fine. Not supported basically means there will be no further updates nor can you have any expectations... but it still is a good tool to have. Basecamp superseded Mapsource . S...

Re: OpenFietsMap Europa (=OpenCycleMap Europe)

......Italy for instance is in E Europe, which means that in order to get this on the GPS (and I think of it as Western Europe) I have to put on my Etrex 20 a truly massive amount of Eastern parts. Each area is sub-divided into many tile images....If you are also using a computer, install Mapsource...

Re: OpenFietsMap Europa (=OpenCycleMap Europe)

I have the downloaded OSM with Osmand but prefer the cycle map version. thanks Yes it can... I tried it sometime ago with a Nexus and it was fine to a point -the sty...

Re: Strong Touring Hub?

Perhaps I am just unlucky in this respect... The hub came as original on stock LHT (2012) fitted with Alex Adventurer, 36h rims. The build quality of the rear wheel for me was not good - needed spokes tightened every couple of hundred miles by me and LBS to no avail hence Spa rebuild which I must sa...

Strong Touring Hub?

Hi, I currently have a Deore LX which has just failed after only 3000 miles. The last 500 miles were in Holland, semi loaded, on the good smooth & flat albeit fast riding - but then I go 110Kg... The wheel build (Sputnik - Spa on existing hubs some 2000 miles ago) is excellent and I never even n...

Re: Seat Post Rack choice.

I've used a cheap, straight beam rack with sides, bought from Halfords for several years on my MTB for occasional use - easy on / off. Perfectly fine for road use with 2 panniers (about 8kg load). Being straight, the panniers are kept high therefore avoiding heel strikes. Off road they are not suita...

Re: Pannier questions

....... i'm torn between the packer classic or plus......From reading these posts, the opinion seems to be the plus has better waterproofing but not as good connecting system? Both are excellent in terms of WP and attachment systems although some find the rack tube sizing inserts of the Plus (QL2 s...
