I bought a new record player last year ( a Rega P6 ) and love being able to play my old vinyl again. Albums hold emotional memories that Spotify playlists just can’t compete with. I’m also very wary not to become reliant on Spotify for my music, what if they jacked the prices up after I’m retired and poorer.
PS Generally, the better record players have fewer gadgets on them, it’s reckoned they can interfere with the sound. Mine even has the transformer and speed control in a separate box that’s kept away from the player.

Re: Currently listening to .......
BBC4 showed a documentary about Don McLeans American Pie album last week. I’ve always thought the song was fairly good, but now I think he’s a genius and will buy the album. Well worth watching on catch up.

Re: met office
I like the Met Office. I have a soft spot for them for calling D a Day right and feel the BBC shouldn’t have dropped them. I’ve even invested in their weather app.

How do you know they haven't?
It will only become clear at the next General Election.
Personally, i believe the Lib Dems have been punished enough since their 2010 collaboration with the Tory Government, and the student fee broken promise, and will make a sizeable comeback at the next GE, probably regain the seats in places where it's usually a two horse race between Lib Dem and either a Tory or Labour candidate.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Greens gain a couple of MPs too at next GE, i hope so.
The polls seems to have them bumping along at 8-10%. I’m sure you’re right and they will improve in the next election. My point was that I would have thought disaffection with the 2 main parties ought to translate into higher poll results for the Lib Dem’s.
Here’s my source:

PS not an attack on the Lib Dem’s, I genuinely wish they were providing an alternative to Labour and The Conservatives that the country could get behind.

Some weeks zero, some weeks 1 or 2 pints. Even when I have had a pint, I enjoy a cup of tea afterwards more. I’ve nearly always got something better to do, like cycling.

I notice the Tories weren’t so outraged when David Cameron implored the female Labour MP to “Calm down dear” a few years ago.

Re: Turbo Trainer Groupset
I went 11 speed 105 Shimano on my turbo just because I had 2 other bikes that run 11 Speed Shimano. I figured the ability to swap wheels / cassettes might be useful. Other than that, I actually use a non indexed down tube shifter. This works absolutely fine with my dumb trainer + Stages power meter and TrainerRoad on an iPad. If you have a higher spec smart turbo then the need for slick changes is even less as it will adjust resistance.

Re: Down Side To Smart Meters..Before I sign Up
One of my customers just paid a heavy price for his smart meter installation yesterday:
1. When the meter installer turned the power back on he managed to blow the boiler PCB. Maybe just bad luck, but the PCB would have probably carried on quite happily without this intervention.
2. The incompetent meter installer mistakenly mistook a slight mark on the wall near the ROOM SEALED modern boiler for combustion spillage and capped off the house gas supply. Any experienced gas engineer would be able to tell that this mark was just the usual faint marking that is caused by warm air from heating pipes circulating up the wall. The sort of thing you see above radiators.
My customer is now £400 worse off this morning.

Re: FILUMS .. Dud endings/starts/concept
Thunder child was half way through the book and was subsequently defeated / sunk / disappeared into a fog bank. The Thunderchild episode in the 50’s film was the neuclear bomb, and in the latest film was the smart missile attack mostly hidden over the brow of the hill, both failed. The marines with a rocket launcher was at the end of the film and a totally different part of the narrative.

Re: back to the road....what have I missed?
Literally anything will do as a turbo bike if you are getting a smart trainer. I got an ancient frame for next to nothing from a club mate and built my own. This then saves sweating all over my nicer road bike. I went a slightly different route to link to my training app = an old fashioned dumb ( but very good ) Cateye trainer, but with a power meter and speed sensor on the bike.

Peter Kay: doesn’t rely on shock / rudeness to force a laugh. Just funny.
