Re: Ah if only we still had those water cannon?

I agree that the police response to this is excellent. Go County Durham Constabulary!

Re: Asking the people

I think Cameron was right to call the referendum. What was unforgivable was with only two possible outcomes, being totally unprepared for the leave option.

Clever!! I've never thought of that.

Re: Ancient man

I've considered this before, as a plumber i ought too have something to offer, but in reality I guess I'd be hopeless without the pipes and fittings I get from the merchants so I'd just end up as unskilled labour if i was lucky. Apparently human intelligence hasn't increased since the stone age, we just have more gadgets, so it'll be interesting to see what people were actually like.

Re: Motorcycle users group, seriously !

I’ll have a guess at answering that;

1. Motorcycling isn’t as fashionable as it was in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. The result is that the age profile of motorcyclists is getting older, we are literally dying out.

2. The hoops that a young person has to go through to ride a bigger bike seem much more complex now. You can’t get away with riding your 250 around the block while the examiner stands on a street corner anymore**

One of my brothers mates actually fell of his bike during his test, but still passed as the examiner didn’t see it :-)

Re: Double edge Safety razor

I changed to a traditional safety razor two years ago. Very happy that I’m no longer producing so much waste as well as no longer getting ripped off by the major manufacturers. It always amazed me that for the price of the latest Gillette razor and a few packs of blades, it would be possible to buy a really crappy full suspension mountain bike. I’ve also dumped tins of foam and use a badger hair brush and traditional soap.

This is the razor I bought:

Re: FILUMS .. Dud endings/starts/concept

My worst ending is the Spielberg version of War of the Worlds. In the book and 50’s version, man was totally defeated and the Martians only died because they had no immunity to germs. In the Spielberg version the aliens were indeed affected by germs but for some reason Spielberg felt it necessary for the staggering tripod to be brought down by a missile from some marines. It kind of spoils the point made at the end of the story and was presumably inserted so that dumb red necks in the audience could have their fist pumping moment.

Enjoy your new bike. They have a real classic feel to them don’t they? PS I imagine your currently washing the salt of it and spraying it with WD40

Re: Motorcycle users group, seriously !

To pile on the agony with the Harley debate:

Prior to 2010 I had a race bike, VFR750 and a Norton Commando. The race bike made me realise that a sports bike can never really be ridden properly on the road ( and live ), while the Norton was fun on country B roads but coated my boot with oil. I test rode a Harley Road King to get the classic vibe but with the oil staying in the engine. First thing I noticed after pulling out of the dealers was a group of girls giggling and waving as I went past - this never happened on my VFR. For 24 hours after the test ride I was giggling to myself, the bike was so over the top, it was hilarious. I therefore bought it. Very soon I changed to an open faced lid as often when I parked up in towns I would have little old ladies coming up to me for a chat. In practical terms the bike is a great tourer, extremely comfortable and very relaxed to ride. I’ve done 25k miles on it.

You might as well keep it Mercalia. Probably won’t get much for it, and at least you know it’s well looked after.

Re: Motorcycle users group, seriously !

Here's one of the most memorable parts of my biking career. At the end of 2008 I bought a Triumph 675 race bike from an up and coming racer who was moving up from club to BSB. I spent 2009 racing the bike in club endurance while the guy I bought it off struggled on an R6 with a best result of 22nd in BSB Superstock. I had a chat with his team owner and offered to lend his old bike back late in the season just to see if he went any better on it. I wasn’t really following the race as was on holiday in France. I then started getting mates texting me to say he’d put my bike on pole, and then that he’d won the race! I think this was Triumphs first BSB win. The rider concerned, John Simpson, went back to Triumphs with full factory support and even won the Manx GP in 2012.
Here’s the BSB race he won with a picture of my bike:

I was back in the 80s. I had cafe racerised 500 and a 750 Triton. After that I had Ducati, Guzzi and a bike I really did not like - a BMW R80.

I've had nothing since 2001, no need, no use, it would be a very seldom used toy. All my kit was given away about 10 years ago. This does not mean that I do not get a hankering.

Love those cafe racers, I’m pretty sure the first one is usually ridden by Ogri.
