Re: end to end
Why not kill 3 birds with one stone. Start at Cape Cornwall (Cornwalls only cape and access to the sea), retrace to Lands End (approx 4 miles south) and take in the Lizard (most southerly point) en route, all in the first day.

If only this had wheels!
I fancy one of these. Pity it does not have wheels though. Would make great wet weather transport.

Re: Another tyres question....
I was allways told that if their was no direction marking on a tyre and if it had a V tread shape then the V allways points in the direction of travel when viewed from the top. This was to ensure that the rolling action of the tyre displaced any water away from the tread and made it less prone to losing grip in the wet.

Should I use my pension to buy one or should I stuff my money back under the matress? Will it turn out to be a five minute wonder or will it become an indispensible aid that i can't live without? Come on guys those of you who have one should have an opinion. The lidl one has a tank capacity of approx 550 ml (about a pint in old money). Would this be big enough to take a rear mech for example.

If you have a freewheel or uniglide cassette you just stripped the thread on the top sprocket. Been there done it.

Re: Pictures of your Trailers
Some great ideas there. Here's my trailer built from a Mothercare Pushchair rescued from a skip a couple of weeks ago. The hitch is the second try, first go was a universal joint but it rattled too much and kept tristing in the drop out. The 2nd one uses a spring. I made this after seeing an idea on the web, cut a short length of spring off a drain cleaner shown in some of the photos, covered it with a rubber hose and inserted a brake cable outer and inner inside the spring and secured it in the tube. I hope this is sufficient to hold it all together and prevent it parting. The tube has then been crimped onto the spring assembly using a hammer and punch. So far so good. Heaviest weight i carried was a large breeze block during a test ride. Early days yet though. One handy feature is the quick release wheel system which was on the pushchair and i have retained it. Makes storage in the shed a lot easier. Just need to convince the wife we can do the supermarket shop with it

Re: Thank You Mr KOMATSU
I once tucked in behind a tractor and trailer in similar weather conditions. I thought my luck was in as not only was it keeping the wind off me it was also keeping me pretty dry.
What I couldn't see was that the tarpaulin cover on the trailer was filling up with rain water. Eventually it reached a critical size and when caught by a large gust of wind it sucked the tarpaulin cover upwards and sent a giant wave of water over the back that almost drowned me.
Just my luck I thought as I recovered my composure and decided to hang in their because of the shelter from the wind. 1/2 a mile down the road the same thing happened again and this time I decided enough was enough, and I let it go and rode the remainder of the way home putting up with the elements.

Learn't from cycling, they are called chain gangs
Lets hope they don't model the next idea on the Keirin (perhaps they have in the form of amber gamblers)

Re: latex tubes....
In response to the last message from oak hill cyclist. I didn't know that thorn resistant tubes existed? I have never seen them. Are they any good? I had a puncture on the front wheel of our tandem on Sunday from a thorn, went straight through the kevlar tyre, and the butyl tube, and we also use an old inner tube slit along its length between tyre and tube.

Re: The ultimate chain?
Continuing the lubricating floor theme, I once polished a slide in the local park with furniture polish as it had become extremely sticky and no one was able to slide down. It was very quick afterwards and all the kids thoroughly enjoyed the speed sensation. A couple of days later at the village school a mum remarked to me that her daughter had suffered a road rash on her bottom from sliding off the end of the slide. I just stopped myself from admitting it was probably down to me!

Re: Rubber grips going sticky
Had the same problem with some shimano rubber brake hoods on drop bar levers. Tried all sorts of treatments but none worked. Eventually covered the rubbers with a section of old inner tube. This works a treat. You may be able to do the same.
