Re: Dangerous tools....

Those of a certain age were given a teaspoon of mercury to roll around your school desk to indicate its properties. By the time I started work it was handled in a fume cupboard.

Re: Cube E MTB - Headset Bearing

The bearing should never have failed in such a short space of time unless it was overtightened or not fitted correctly or faulty.
If you aren't confident to replace the bearings yourself and adjust them correctly then take it to a reputable bike shop to have the work done.

Re: Small(er) wheeled bikes - non folding!

An opportune thread resurrection. I passed this small wheeler today from a shed clearing. First thought it was a RSW but on the way home I stopped for a better look. Anyone know what it is. An early electric folding bike.
And does anyone know the significance of the number plate on the VW camper prop.

When retailers were always asking for your postcode at the checkout I always gave this as the answer. No one ever doffed their hats. :(

OP: get a screenshot and upload that.
Looks like the through axle failed.

Specialized S works failure.

Well I've never seen this mode of failure before. What initiated it. Lucky to get away with road rash.

Re: Ovaltine as a recovery drink?

BBC did a recent sliced bread programme on protein supplements. It was advised as a recovery drink after exercise.
If ovaltine fits this category go for it.
Personally I would try it in my porridge to use it up rather than throw it away.

how do you think this happens exactly? I ask because the exact opposite is a common complaint eg. in 10s quicklinks.
With the SRAM 8 speed quicklinks the pin develops a ridge over time and use and they become difficult to separate. Have to use a hammer with the link positioned on a chainset tooth. Often takes a very sharp tap. :(

Re: Lubrication

I reuse my quick links until the wear makes them difficult to split. 8 speed chain and SRAM quick link.

Re: Lubrication

Chain waxing every 500 miles works for me. I rotate the chains every 500 miles when a waxed chain goes on. The removed chain gets a wipe over then a cook up before hanging up for next time.

Re: Struggling with cargo bike on rural school run

Motor faults can sometimes be cleared with a Battery Management system reset .

https://youtu.be/BohusvCWp2M?si=ha37cnrd-PeDUmqC

I reset the BMS on my middrive motor by wheeling the bike in reverse for a minute which turns the motor into a generator and back feeds the battery at its output terminals. leave the battery power switch and controller on.

A simple task before having to investigate further.

Import tariffs from China

Press are reporting the scrapping of import tariffs on bikes from China. Part of the agreement after the China visit.
