Re: LidL today

Bad luck to those who missed it. With luck, Lidl will notice the popularity and do them again soon. I was amused to find the workstand includes a 5mm hex key for the assembly. How many people want to assemble a bike workstand but don't already have a 5mm hex key? Well there's me for a start. Have g...

Re: Did raleigh do a non 531 replica team raleigh bike?

I had the chance at one of those red team TI raleigh bikes, with the black top tube and yellow decals. It didn't have any stickers to suggest what tubing it was but looked fairly low spec form the components. Does anyone know if they done a cheaper replica bike? OR were they all 531? I didn't take ...

Sheldon Brown is amongst those who advocate leaving the tension adjuster alone. He cycled a great deal - though he did have lots of bikes!

Re: Puncture kit advice please?

The Poundland £1 repair kits work perfectly well. Feathered patches, chalk, roughener, yellow pencil and two tubes of solution. Never had any problems with punctures repaired with one of these kits.

It may not be the case but that sounds like incompetence to me. Mine come off and go on very easily.

Re: what price to pay for tyres

I think it can be a mistake to assume all cheap tyres are rubbish. Couldn't agree more. I'm running on Vittoria Randonneur Cross tyres which cost the princely sum of £4.95 each. Fitted for over 3 years now , roll easily, hand off road unless very muddy, plenty of life left and with only 2 punctures...

They didn't. Only the English use it :D

No. I think you'll find Amercians, Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, Scottish , Welsh, Irish etc all use the word God as well.

Re: Tourer or Road bike

For just over £1000 this would do the job you require and would prove a better long term investment than most of the brands mentioned on account that it uses a high quality, lugged, hand built frame. The finish on Ellis Briggs frames is superb, Sora kit is more than adequate and where it falls down(...

Re: chain bath machine cleaning solution

How much is domestic heating oil these days? I use kerosene which is similar and about 60-70p per litre if I am remembering correctly. After cleaning with the kerosene I do a final rinse with white spirit and hang the chain up to dry. I find that white lightning sticks to the chain without washing ...

Re: chain bath machine cleaning solution

If you've got central heating the stuff in your heating oil tank is an excellent cleaner/degreaser and it's cheap. Mix it with vinegar and it makes a good penetrating fluid as well.

Re: Grumbly knee

After a recent event, my right knee has started to sound like an ungreased bearing, it has always clicked a lot but now it is noisy too. I had these sysmptoms, went to the Drs, then had recomended physio treatment for a few months. No improvement so decided to use the family BUPA membership my wife...

James Gresty said "I have never had a car - and I have never wanted one. I like to keep fit by cycling so I have been doing it for 51 years." Surely anyone with that attitude should have our full support or at least sympathy. What amazes about this case is the amount of police resource use...

Re: Dawes Galaxy -v- Raleigh Randonneur

I had a '94 Galaxy and now I have an '02. The '94 was a 20" frame with slender stays, the '02 is 22.5" with fatter stays. I bought the 02 last year because it was as new, having covered 600 miles in its first month then stored indoors for 6 years, for the bargain price of £325.00 includin...

Re: Which piece of cycling equipment had the greatest impact for

Ah Terrys. They made so many useful clips etc for bikes. I went to a mixed school and backin the sixties every girls bike had a Terrys hockey stick holder on the right fork leg. Though the Japs have driven many old establsihed British manufacturers out of business they certainly haven't replaced them.
