Re: No More Tech.

*Jared* Diamond, do you mean? (seems to know everything, one could suspect JD is not an individual but a committee of experts) JD and his like are one reason why I Love America Me too. I have read several of his books. They are full of unusual ideas and insights. Guns, Germs and Steel begins with a...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Some Remainers have let themselves down badly in this respect. And the leavers "boo yah sucks" attitude? Lets face it the country is divided and however it pans out it isn't going to fix itself anytime soon and neither side is blame free. And if the economy does tank there will be a lot o...

Re: H&S and Risk assessments

Absolutely agreed, anyone in industrial H&S knows that PPE is bottom of the list in 'Hierarchy of controls', if ONLY we could get the general public, politicians, safety 'campaigners' and other cyclists to understand that there are many many things to tackle before helmet wearing it would be a ...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

If the Ashcroft survey is anything to go by it was the non working class vote which drove the Brexit vote. "A majority of those working full-time or part-time voted to remain in the EU; most of those not working voted to leave. More than half of those retired on a private pension voted to leav...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Have you a source for this? Yes, the internet has a wealth of articles saying this . The wealthy voted Remain, so a Brexit coup by them seems unlikely. 'At every level of earning there is a direct correlation between household income and your likelihood to vote for leaving the EU' https://www.teleg...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

[ It doesn't matter who I vote for. The Tories always get over 50% of the vote where I live. The MP we currently have is now an ex Tory - Nick Boles. The only reason I bring up who you vote for is that you definitely don't vote Tory, so you are not a good measure of how well Bojo will or won't brin...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Press barons? Are we in the 1960s? To some extent you worry too much. I voted Tory at the last election. (Hope you didn't spill your coffee there) . I would never vote for a party with Boris at the helm. I am exposed to all those dark forces you imagine and I am 100% not going to vote for a party w...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Democracy post Brexit will come down to the maths of the MPs. At the moment the Tories are struggling with a fractured governing party reliant on a fickle partner party. After the next election you think they will run away with a commanding majority? Really? They won't be propped up by large number...

I find it best if you know your GP on a social basis - obvioulsy if it's a friend you're unlikely to suffer so called white coat syndrome. It also helps with getting a same day appointment.

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Populist is a valid term, meaning leaning towards easy "solutions" that won't actually work if implemented. Easy to sell to discontented punters, but fake. So it does mean something. But it is also used in a lazy way to dismiss movements that challenge established paradigms such as neo-li...

Re: Buying a touring bike - things I didn't know

No-one other than racers need their brake levers to wobble sideways, adding complexity and cost while reducing compatibility and functionality. That said, hopefully a solution is in sight You’re 100% correct, save that there is already an answer to this problem. Campagnolo. No sideways mo...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

And perhaps you could explain your use of the derogatory word "snowflake", in referring to the Independent . Because for the life of me, I can't see any connection. A snowflake is an ice crystal usually displaying sixfold symmetry. Yes, I know the word has another meaning.... It was origi...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

You've told us about the bad things now tell us what the benefits of brexit will be. Still waiting - or can't you think of any sensible or realistic benefits other than my side won. I wish you well with that thought as it obviously seems to massage the fragile little egos of many leavers. Here are ...
