Re: Friend hit

I was involved in a collision with a car, which strictly speaking was my fault, the vehicle overtook me (although he was exceeding the 30mph speed limit in order to do so) and then had to (with 15-20 seconds) do an emergency stop as the road bridge was too narrow for 2 cars and the car coming the ot...

Re: Recommended cycle camera

I have a Roadhawk, which I should imagine is an earlier version of the one you are interested in. My view on that model is that the battery life is around 50% of that claimed (and I sent my first one back due to the poor battery life - after much arguing with the company, they claimed my memory card...

Just why can't drivers...

...Look beyond the end of their car bonnet? I know it's a generalisation, but yesterday out on a ride a had two shining examples. First one, climbing a very narrow country lane (single car width with occasional passing places) 4x4 approaches, drives beyond the passing place (on his left) and suddenl...

Re: Jail for road-rage motorist who deliberately ploughed into cyclists

As I have posted previously when this topic has come up, I knew a lady who drove to court, was banned (for habitual speeding) for 12 months and then drove home. She continued to drive for the whole period of her disqualification. There seems little point in handing out bans if they are not enforced ...

Re: Cyclist on trial for manslaughter

This is a really tragic event and any death caused by a vehicle is one too many, but I can't help feeling that if this had been a motorist it would not have made headline news. At best it would have been "pedestrian struck by car/van/lorry in unfortunate accident" at worst completely ignor...

Re: Glastonbury

I live quite close to Pilton, which is where "Glasto" is situated, quite a distance from Glastonbury itself (but you can see the Tor from the site). I can hear continuous "noise" from the site throughout the event (the gates open earlier and earlier it seems), sounds like rolling...

Re: 70 today

I think it was 2 years ago (it's an age thing :D ) I invited a group of friends to join me on a birthday ride. We rode up Cheddar Gorge as part of the ride and did around 45 miles, I think, finished off back at my house where my wife had cooked up a chilli or pasta dish and everyone had a few beers/...

Re: The passing of the pristine country lane

pwa, I entirely agree (I just can't be bothered copying your post - if that appears rude, apologies :)) My village has an axle weight limit through it, unfortunately many HGV drivers (usually having just left the factory on the edge of the village) blindly follow their satnav, only to find they can ...

Re: Warrington planners are out to get me

Have a look at what the "Planners" did at Wincanton when it got to the very busy roundabout: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.050915,-2.4158372,3a,75y,252.85h,61.06t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sNXovWNKwjXP8_9k2UobyVw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1 So, if you don't wipe out a pedestrians waiting for t...

Re: The passing of the pristine country lane

What a can never understand is why the "shortcut" has to be driven at the highest possible speed - it is already, allegedly, going to make the trip quicker, so why can it not be done at a speed whereby a pedestrian/cyclist/horse & rider is not put at risk of injury or death? I live in ...

Re: Bristol,Bath,Oxford,Hunstanton,Norwich,Ispwich,Tilbury,Caterbury July 2017

I think the nearest Decathlon to Bristol is at Southampton, but there is a huge store in Surrey Quays, London( https://www.decathlon.co.uk/en/store?store_id=PS_UK_240) which has a massive number of bikes and a large enough area to try them out, worth checking out before you get to Bristol (or have a...

Re: Bike cam help wanted

My biggest disappointment with the Roadhawk is the battery life, which is a shame as other than that it is not a bad camera. As a lot of my commute is early in the morning (5am out of the house), the cold obviously has an impact on the duration of the battery in use. My reasons for buying have been ...
