Re: Cassettes - 7 speed & spacer or 8 speed?
^^ I think that the failure of the nipples was down to corrosion - or rather, lack of washing road salt off the rims. When I checked the other nipples when I replaced the two that had snapped, some others did have corrosion on them. My money is on that your wheel has aluminium nipples. What colour ...

Re: New wheels. Help me choose!
You'd find that a well built wheel does not brake spokes like you suggested, spokes break due to metal fatigue but good wheelbuilding techniques can delay spoke breaking well beyond your rim's life. Something tells me I'm wasting my breath here giving you this information so that's all I have to sa...

Re: New wheels. Help me choose!
So wheels that would work for a risk-happy 20-year-old that intends to blast around Richmond Park a couple of times a week for six months before ‘upgrading’ the wheels again, and wouldn’t much care if a spoke broke inside those six months, would likely not work for me. It would be a minor disaster ...

Re: DT Revolution spokes
I'm thinking of using these spokes to drop about 200g off the weight of a typical wheelset. I'm wondering though, are they particularly difficult to build into wheels and are there any reasons I should give them a miss? I weigh about 13 stone and was thinking of lacing them into H Plus Son TB14 rim...

Re: New wheels. Help me choose!
I’ve occasionally thought of treating my Dawes Clubman to some nice, lightweight, probably hand-built wheels. Recently I had a crash that gouged some spokes and slightly buckled the rear wheel, so now might be a good time. ⋅ I’m light, roughly 65 kg (145 lb / 10½ st.) ⋅ but don’...

Re: Swapping hard drives between two laptops, simple?
Well, you don't loose anything by trying.
It should be straight forward to swap the hard disks.
If it doesn't work then it will tell you but I guess it should work OK. .... you might have to change a few configuration settings to use touch screen.
You can always put the hard disks back....

Re: What Is This Hub?
Described as grey but they look silver to me the hubs I've had in my hands.
Another nice silver hubs are the shimano Dura Ace 7900.

Re: Wheel building and disc brakes
well disc hubs tend to have larger flanges and fatter barrels (to share the torque between the flanges) so I suspect that hub designers do worry about the brake torque wrecking the wheels. At best the brake torque is shared between just half the spokes where they enter the rim. If the hub barrel is...

Re: Wheel building and disc brakes
On the leaflet that comes with the hub it explains how you should put your leading and trailing spokes, the head-in or head-out being the difference. In my case the wheels are fitted with ordinary rims and will be used with or without disc brakes, I have still laced them disc-style as that is proba...
