Re: JTEK shiftmate conversion Shimano 10 to 9-speed
One observation only. Campagnolo 10 to shimano 8 sp cassette and Campagnolo 11 to 9sp cassette - no need for shifmate.

Re: Type 2 Diabetes . . what do you take.
RRSODL I'm not an expert in these things by any means, far from it. If i recall correctly your readings had dropped to 4.0. Perhaps your diabetic nurse was concerned that the medication could cause your blood sugar levels to drop to low. Not a good thing as i understand it. I didn't have to change ...

Re: Type 2 Diabetes . . what do you take.
RRSODL That's got to be good news for you. If you can control it by diet and exercise, then that's the way to go. I managed to do that for about 5/6yrs, but inevitably had to be prescribed medication. Any length of time you don't have to take the little white pills is a bonus in my opinion. :D Than...

Re: Type 2 Diabetes . . what do you take.
My doctor knows that I do long cycling rides and has never mentioned to cut down on metformin. I was diagnosed diabetes type only last February when my glucose level was 98. Now is down to 41 which is normal. So I'm confused. The test results indicate I'm doing the right thing. I will ask my doctor...

Re: Type 2 Diabetes . . what do you take.
I see, as I said before, my diabetes was diagnosed only this year and I'm on one 500mg a day. Maybe the doses is low enough to not have the need to miss a tablet when exercising.

Re: Type 2 Diabetes . . what do you take.
I take the lowest doses of Metformin and I can't say I go touring but I do go for long rides. I eat porridge in the morning and a take with me a handful of nuts. I might stop for a salad or a sandwich. I dont understand why people stop taking metformin when cycling long distance.... am I missing som...

Re: Actuation Ratio of Brakes
Why not just buy the Campagnolo brakes? - in my experience much better than the fiddly Shimano units I thought about it, I was going to buy record but then I change my mind. If you read the reviews on these shimano brakes then you will see that shimano changed ( cable pull amount) made them super b...

Re: Pros and Cons - old frame, new options, wheels...
I have a Raleigh Vittesse from the late 80's - I upgraded the lot, against people advise  and I can't say I regret it one bit. The drop outs were 126 so I use brute force :D to fit the real wheel. These days the distance is 128mm so not a great deal of force is required. Yours would need a cold...

Re: Hope for type 2 diabetics..
I just watched a recording of ITVs tonight programme on diabetes. It included a pointer to the work of Professor Taylors work at Newcastle University. In some cases type 2 diabetes sufferers and pre diabetes folk can cure themselves in less than 2 weeks by going on a crash diet. Its claimed that th...

Re: Actuation Ratio of Brakes
I am told that if I buy a set of Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 brake calipers, they "Must be used in conjunction with ST7900 STI or BLTT7900 aero levers for correct leverage ratio". Now, I thought a brake pull was a brake pull and you only get actuation ratio's with gears. I am a little confused ...

Re: Renewal Prices (Daylight Robbery!)
I had a letter from my breakdown cover provider last week (I won't name them, but they're one of the brightly coloured ones ) Last year I paid ~£120. My renewal price for this year? >£200, and that was including a supposed 20% discount for my loyalty! I could barely contain my laughter. When ...

Re: Rohloff hub spoke/rim requirements
inevitably...why ? pretentious.....from Google...."attempting to impress by affecting greater importance or merit than is actually possessed" Instead of all the tripe about telling somebody else how to do it, why didn't they just build it themselves? Too hard for them, in reality no diffe...

Re: Rohloff hub spoke/rim requirements
Hi, I bought a complete bike with a Rohloff wheel, about two years ago. For various reasons I never rode the bike till the last few months. Two rear spokes snapped in the first 150 miles. I've been doing a little research and it seems that Rohloff have some wheel-building recommendations (requireme...

Re: spoke length, from a calculator
Why you don't buy 36 x 290mm? Right and left side would be OK with 290 though the tension would be different
