Re: Front lamp bracket.

Have you a picture of the lamp? Your description doesn't ring any bells  (or add much light) for me. How retro is retro? Once upon a time, bike lamp brackets were like the fork-mounted one in this link (SJSC) or the same thing but with a ring intended to fit in the head stack: https://www.sjs...

Front lamp bracket.

My son has given me a retro style front lamp. I would like to have a mounting bracket that I could fit to the headset. The lamp has a single point bolt through mounting, not seen this type before. I asked at my LBS, but they couldn't help, the assistant thought he had seen what I wanted, but couldn't...

8sp chain

Grandson has just broken the chain on his mtb, which is fitted with an 8sp rear sprocket.
Unfortunately, in his wisdom, he has discarded the old chain, so I can't attempt a repair.
I due have in my spares box a Clarks 5 to 7sp chain Does anybody know if this would be ok to use.

Re: A RANT thread for Odds and Sods

so what happened to Drakes thread on the health budget and the £12bn that goes in foreign aid? I dont seem to see it any more  Must admit I wondered myself. Reported in the papers yesterday, the Indian High commissioner is quoted as saying, " We don't need your billions in aid "....

Brexit and Farming.

I doubt that this country will ever be self sufficient in food production, but if brexit goes a head should there be more investment in home produced food, and less reliance on imports ?

Re: Revoshift blues

you appear to be blaming the shifters, but I would wager it is the mechs which are at fault. Cheap mechs just about work when they are new, but once they get a bit baggy, you might as well give up on any idea of 'reliable indexing'. I have seen some LBS mechanics work miracles with cheap mechs (usi...

Re: Downslink to be closed from 29 August during the week

To complete these works - ie the section from the 90 degree bend by the old cement works up to the South Downs Way bridge - I have been informed that work will recommence "...on the 29th August. They might be pushed back a week to avoid the school holidays if possible." "It will be c...

Re: 7sp chain

You may find you can adjust the QL to fit. By inserting each QL side plate onto the chain, take the chain tool and apply pressure to the pin, as you would if you were trying to remove the pin. These pins are very hard to move, but they will budge a bit, if you have a good chain tool. By doing this ...

and it lists many of the chain models that each quicklink will fit.

cheers

Thanks for the link. Amazing how many different links there are.

foxyrider wrote:yep, they could be quite a bit wider depending on the block/cassette used.

I had a feeling that was the case.
So the likely hood of getting a quick link to fit this chain is probably nil.
Think I'll bite the bullet and fit a new chain.
Manythanks for your reply.

7sp chain

Do they vary in width ? The reason I ask is that I removed a chain for cleaning and decided to refit it using a KMC quick link. The link will not close together no matter what I try. The chain is fitted to an old Raleigh Jackal mtb. The rear mechanism is Shimano. So I'm wondering did old 7sp chains ...

Re: Cantilever brakes . . . balance ?

Manythanks for your replies.I'll give all of the suggestions a try today. As far as V-brakes are concerned, in my limited experience, there are V-brakes and there are V-brakes. The weak areas as far as I can are the noodle and the saddle that the noodle fits in to. After having experienced a noodle ...

Cantilever brakes . . . balance ?

Just checking over a neighbours bike for him which is fitted with cantilever brakes. One thing I've noticed on the front brake is that after applying the brakes and releasing the lever, one arm doesn't release very much and one does. On a V-brakes there are balance screws, but there doesn't appear t...

As you say, a few of us have done it.
