Yes, the Fool closed their forum so the members collaborated and set up their own.

The great thing is its Financial Advisor (shark) free.

The HYP (high yield portfolio) is a way to invest if you like to conduct your own financial affairs.

Re: Pressing In Bearings

If the bearing housing is sized to require you to press in the bearing thats how its supposed to be. The interference fit will be such that there is no damage to the bearing. The main thing is that the outer ring of the bearing shouldnt be able to rotate in the housing.

The important thing is to press the outer race only and press it evenly so there is no tendency for it to tilt and jam. If its really tight pop the bearing into a freezer and evenly warm the housing before attempting to insert it.

Re: UK energy

CCS would be puny, particularly in comparison to the natural sources of greenhouse gases over which we have little or no control. As pointed out upthread its a change in lifestyle that will bring significant results. Not needing all that new steel for more and more new motor vehicles would be a good start.

Thats what I suggested, its not too hard to do a little bit - go greener by recycling more, restrict purchase of new things, especially those made in the lands of the greatest polluters.

If we all do it instead of blindly following the mindless publicity...it will make a difference.

Al, you keep on boasting about running an Aga to heat a poorly insulated house.

You're in no position to criticise China for anything.
I note you are still backing tbe worlds worst polluters. If you fail to acknowledge that there must be a reason? As for our house its insulated as well as it possibly can be, and the Aga is just great.

Re: Climate Change...

Back to my original post, its not just BEVs I am deploring but the whole shooting match of what we consume which is ,according to the climate scientists, the reason the planet is warming.

There are welcome developments, some of them quite long in the tooth.... Ebay, Charity Shops, Car Boots, Antique Shops, Auctions, Auto Trader and more recently Vinted and other online recycling marketplaces. But many people have to have 'New'.... It all needs to be manageably ramped down, and a new mindset adopted.....

Reuse, recycle, thus do your bit to save the planet.... Get stuff at auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Car Boots. Choose an Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can......

Climate Change...

Antarctica is ‘greening’ at dramatic rate as climate heats https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/ ... re_btn_url

Unwelcome news, perhaps if Britain and other countries werent planning to totally renew their car fleets but recycle what we already have emissions of greenhouse gas would be less. Applies to everything else too?

Re: Heat in the home

We have had our Aga on for a. couple of weeks now. It mildly heats the bathroom towel rails, the hot water tank, dries the washing, does all the cooking and with the kitchen door open wafts warmth tbroughout the house without any need to switch on the Central Heating. Its such a comfort to come home to. We have very well insulated lofts the bedrooms hall and stairs are all comfy too. Guess it will be well into November before needing the CH, perhaps even later if we make use of throws and insulated clothing meanwhile. We have plenty of scrap wood, logs from felled trees and smokeless coal put by for extra chilly conditions to feed our sitting room stove.

Re: How to remove rust inside steel frame tubes?

I recently did some rust treatment on my old Camper. I found Kurust very good it seemed to stabilise the rust and made it ready for painting. That said I dont think a bit of surface rust inside a frame is in any way dangerous unless it has the appearance of being a crust which would indicate severe weakening corrosion.

As of January 2023, China had 3,092 operating coal-fired power plant units. China has the most coal-fired power plants in the world, and is responsible for over 50% of the world's coal electricity generation.

And, until recently they were commissioning 2 new ones a week.
