Shackleton's grave is in the Cemetery at Gritviken. Shackleton landed on the south side of the island and trekked across to Stromness which now has a huge population of fur seals and elephant seals.

Re: The next Labour Leader

Roger Lorton who posts on Mercopress is an expert on the complex history. The wildlife there and on South Georgia is fantastic. SG is my favourite place, staggering beauty, history and wildlife. The first Typhoons flew down to the Falklands recently and had to refuel 9 times in the air. Corbyn would...

That's only part of the story. You missed what happened immediately before. The rebellion, the rape etc. Mercopress is the forum. Google is great  Irrelavent...

Re: The next Labour Leader

The history is complex, but occupied by the British since 1833. The islands are a political pawn to the Argies. Irrelavent to the next Labour leader.

Re: The next Labour Leader

I am aware the Falkland Islanders wanted to remain British. So now the Union Jack still flies there. What else has changed? Well, they still drive on the left, the kids arent brainwashed with Spanish, they are gradually clearing the Argentinian minefields, rats have been eliminated from some of the...

Re: What sort of bike for my iffy knees?

Nah I'd feel like I was cheating with an Ebike. Sorry if that ruffles a few feathers but it's really not for me at this stage. . Well, I was thinking of something like this. Looks like a racer, rides like a racer, but is actually an electric sneaker..... https://www.cyclesolutions.co.uk/35021/produ...

Re: ** The General Election Thread **

John, racists and people calling for a reduction in immigration are not exclusively from the Tory side as you are very well aware. Emily Thornbury's White Van Man is just as culpable and they are the people who are probably most adversely affected from what some of them have told me personally. The ...

Re: The next Labour Leader

I was against invading Iraq and was in that huge march in London also the anti Bush march later. The Camel Corps (vastly experienced FO staff and retired diplomats who thoroughly understood Arabia) warned against interfering and they were laughed at but later proved 100% correct. I felt certain that...

Re: ** The General Election Thread **

vthe UK is an attractive place for immigrants. If you're fleeing war torn Syria, or famine ridden parts of Africa. ...and if today is anything to go by I had a laugh with some Bulgarians, Romanians, an Indian lady, a Philipino lady, a Brazilian bloke and later on a Turkish lady and her kids in Tesc...

Re: The next Labour Leader

You are correct, political ineptitude is at the heart of it. Admitting the hard looney left was a huge mistake. Having an impotent opposition is almost as bad as having an incompetent government. I watched Blairs speech and audience questions this morning and although he made a massive error over th...

Re: The next Labour Leader

What I am picking up here is that the issue for Labour and why they lost is Jeremy Corbyn which isn't telling us very much. Remember, political parties aren't brands of washing powder although a lot of marketing goes on. They represent classes and interests and when those change, the parties change...

Audax67 wrote:! = factorial operator, * = multiply - it avoids confusion with x the letter.
