Re: It's now or never ! (update route advice)

In respose to your PM, I have no news of the current state of the roads and if any are still flooded. I am not sure how you would find out, Tourist Information, the AA, here on CTC Forum? In 2010 we stayed at the Bridge Inn on the edge of Yatton and got a good deal. The previous night we stayed at ...

Re: It's now or never ! (update route advice)

Thanks for those updates - that's great advice and much appreciated ! Now, how do I get these routes onto my Etrex GPS - RWGPS churns out tracks that are over 5000 points so I am thinking that I need to manually add all the turns to Memory Map as a sub 500 point route ? I will be using my GPS and pa...

Re: It's now or never ! (update route advice)

Ok, so I realised that some days were too long and there was no teleportation system between Cheddar and Hereford so I've had a tweak. Lands End to Blackwater (via LP) http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4012162 Blackwater to Holsworthy http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4012269 to Wellington http://ridewithgp...

You save about 5 miles and 1,000 foot of climbing.

Re: It's now or never ! (update route advice)

Ok - so route planning has been interesting ! Dragging and dropping dots to see if route B is 6ft less climbing than route A and then search for campsites near pubs....and repeat ! I appreciate that there are regular "what do you think " threads - indeed one has just been posted about 10 m...

Re: New to touring

Well it depends... what sort of mountain bike have you got? My first two tours were short (2 weeks each) and so I used my mountain bike, a fairly basic hardtail. I only had to invest in some road tyres, a rear rack and panniers, which I could easily have sold if it hadn't been my cup of tea. For a ...

Re: Canyon Bikes

I bought a 29er from them last year after trying to buy from both LBS and UK on-line shops without success. Very good - bike arrived well packed, well put together, great spec and great value. The tracking system used is rubbish - bike arrived before I could start to track it !! UK contact for them ...

Re: It's now or never !

I was thinking of recharging at the pub every evening ! My definition of cycle touring is bike and a great route during the day followed by tent and a pub at night ! I will probably duck into B&B's every third or fourth day to dry stuff out ! I have realised that my Garmin Etrex should do the tr...

The midges will eat you alive - my experience (2 Kielder 100s and overnight doing Rievers C2C) was of ferocious midges.

But it is a beautiful part of the world.

Re: Flybe

Plenty of encouraging threads on the web - search flybe bikes space. I'm in a similar situation re flying back from JOG but it seems that the vast majority have had no issues. Saying that, if you are in the minority then it's a right PIA ! Check to see what make of plane does that route - if it's th...

It's now or never ! (Done)

Last week I resigned from my job and have decided to delay the start of the new one and do this thing ! The chances of getting permission to use 2 weeks of an annual holiday allowance to cycle E2E are slim to non existant but with a natural gap in employment it has opened up and been approved. (Than...
