Re: SPA CYCLES STEEL TOURING FRAMES

Top and down tubes are half a millimetre thick in the middle, the un-butted bit. Seat tube is a bit thicker at 0.6mm. Not outlandishly thin for bicycle tubing, but all too easy to dent accidentally, and I wouldn't want to be welding a disc mount to 0.5mm tubing. I`ve just picked up a frameset that ...

Re: Measuring seat angle - correct tool?

The spirit level holds one arm of the device horizontal `in air` whist the other arm is put against the seat tube. I was going to get one of the Lidl ones but they had sold out.I would normally use a piece of cardboard, spirit level, pen and protractor in the kitchen against the wall. Keep it simple...

Re: Measuring seat angle - correct tool?

You just need to use it with a spirit level.

Re: Roller brake vs long drop dual caliper

Thank you chaps.
"Not meant to come apart BTW"-now that sounds like a challenge!
I wonder how it does assemble/dissemble? It was just an extension of having to strip out the bearings and fit a different axle really.
As well as washers i assume a great big spring as well.

Re: Roller brake vs long drop dual caliper

They`ve gone!
Is there a way of removing what seems to be a heavy lump (the modulator assembly i assume)from within the front hub to use it as a regular wheel, or is it a pressed in never to be removed item.

Re: SPA CYCLES STEEL TOURING FRAMES

Thank you Colin that`s really interesting. I did think after i asked the question that it may well be something that you wanted to keep to yourself for commercial reasons! A non low rider fork (not of interest to you at Spa i realise)would be of the same dimensions but of a lighter gauge again i ass...

Re: SPA CYCLES STEEL TOURING FRAMES

Back to topic, does anyone here have an idea when we might see the Steel Tourer Disc frame from Spa in retail? Hopefully we are on the final prototype, which means it might be mid next year. How much of a load and how big a tyre are you looking for? This one.... https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4388/3...

Re: Roller brake vs long drop dual caliper

Both.
They seem a very complicated, expensive and heavy solution to the alternatives without a clear advantage as i see it, and a shame they came with the bike i bought! (Which was primarily for the Nexus 8 hub)

Re: Roller brake vs long drop dual caliper

Thank you all.
I`ve had experience of the earlier Nexus roller brake which if nothing else was consistent in all weathers.....always c..p!
I`m a regular modern motorcycle rider so i suppose i have pretty high standards when it comes to braking on two wheels, it`s hilly around here as well!

Cheers

Roller brake vs long drop dual caliper

Apart from weight saving, will i gain braking power by replacing a Shimano Rollerbrake IM70 with a long drop (75mm) dual caliper?

Cheers.

Re: Nexus 8 Merida

just make sure the gears all work. Ideally you want a Nexus red band hub, with roller bearings in the planet pinions, like an Alfine. cheers Despite not being a`red band`model, on my test ride it immediately felt more refined(?)and efficient than my red band Nexus 7 with a very sweet gear shift. Th...

Re: Nexus 8 Merinda

Thanks.
I`m assuming the brakes should be better than the old Nexus 7 hub brake but not as good as V brakes.
If all is as it should be(and it appears that way from the pictures and description)it seems a bit of a bargain.

Nexus 8 Merida

Going to take a look at a secondhand one of these tomorrow, that chap wants 90 pounds (Pound sign key don`t work  )
I`m familiar with Nexus 4 and 7s, anything particular i should check for on this model?
