Re: Are my wheels knackered or just wrong items?

obvious is good. I'm still very green to this in all honesty - my last bike I had for 2 years and never had a flat so never had to bother with any of this.

My hack still has it's original tubes too.

I've ordered some 18-28s so hopefully they help

but:

a) Get one bead of the tyre on the rim
b) round the tube out slightly and fit it inside the cover, starting at the valve (you will have to push the valve down well and then pull the cover over the back of the valve stem).
>> By this do you mean put a slight amount of air in - guessing that's the term for "rounding out"
>> what do you mean by "cover" - sorry i'm sure that's very dumb query but don't want to assume. I'm guessing the tyre but want to be sure.

c) starting opposite the valve, fit the second bead to the rim as far as you can with the tube still rounded out.
d) deflate the tube
e) fit the (short) remaining portion of the second bead, being absolutely certain that the valve stem is pushed upwards as the last bit of the bead goes into place.
f) inflate the tube to make sure that the tube hasn't been damaged
g) deflate the tube completely and inspect the bead seating (to be sure that the tube isn't pinched) by pinching the cover and being certain that the rim tape is visible.
h) half inflate the tyre, and check it is seated correctly (runs true)
i) fully inflate the tyre.

Re: Are my wheels knackered or just wrong items?

Schwalbe do an 18-28, should I swap to those and see how I get on?

Re: Are my wheels knackered or just wrong items?

Brucey wrote:how wide are your tyres? How much load is there on the tyres? What diameter are your rollers? Would you describe yourself as a powerful rider or not? Are you a spinner or a masher?

All these things can make a difference. 85-90psi might be just fine or constitute underinflation. IIRC Lugano tyres don't have very high upper pressure limit and (in skinny widths) are therefore problematic for heavier/stronger riders on the road. On the rollers they are likely to be worse than that.

cheers

Tyres are 25c
Continental Race 28 (700c) x 25/32C tubes.

I'm heavy
not powerful
I probably mash because I don't have the smoothness to spin.

Happy to change tyres and or tubes. I picked these tyres to suit my Calima wheels which suggested 25 witdth.

Re: Are my wheels knackered or just wrong items?

I was sitting around 85/90 psi. So not really one way or another - too low or two high.

it was instantly noticeable - felt like there was a stone on the tyre is the only way I can explain the feeling.

which HRM? Garmin compatible

Hiya, I have a garmin edge explore. Just added cadence and speed sensors which seemed easy to add.

would like a HRM to see what the ticker is doing on rides and perhaps look at better training plans etc.

any recommendations? can you just get a chest band with ant+ or whatever connects to the edge?

would like to keep to garmin

so, same pattern in two places. only one of those is leaking air, neither are by the actual valve

Re: Are my wheels knackered or just wrong items?

Certainly what it looks like but no noticeable marks on rim tape and spokes seem tight. Really odd

Are my wheels knackered or just wrong items?

I've got my bike back after assembly. Chuffed to bits

However, 4 mins on rollers notice a thud every revolution, pump tyre as was seemingly flat and could hear air escape.

Remove tube and there’s lumps in a few 4 places - looks like it’s squeezed into spokes which is hasn’t but that’s the look.

New tube, set in perfectly, pump roll same thing. Even turning bike on rollers to wrong way round to check rollers it’s still the same, front wheel. There’s nothing in the tyre, wheel looks fine and true tube last about a minute.

Rollers also seem fine.

Am I just using wrong tyres for the wheel?

The tape inside the wheel says only for double wall rims but assume that doesn’t make a difference

I’m using Campagnolo Calima wheels
Scwalbe Lugano tyres
Continental race tubes

I’m confused and annoyed

Re: Labral Tear....maybe

well, physio today. He suggested it "may" be a tear but due to history feels something more long term is at play - possibly a deformed hip in general since birth, and i've just been walking/standing/living wonky and it's finally given up. Would explain the previous knee pain but no problems with the knee.

So, MRI is booked - going private for this as it's done within 5 days. See how we go from there.

He has said I can cycle as long as it's pain free so yay back in action.

I'm doing my damned 100 miler! if I have to have an op after than then so be it.

went for: SKS Raceblade Pro XL seem to have good reviews. But yes, space was the concern more than anything, it's all a bit tight round there.

certainly sleek!

I ended up with some SKS stealth ones. Pretty decent reviews from a few places - and a bit cheaper than carbon fibre

Re: Wiggle

I've had great experiences with wiggle, but lately the niggles in customer service have crept in...

I had a bent rear mech hanger, spoke to them, asked if they could recommend a replacement and forwarded me a rear derailieur… I mean it was close at least!

Returned some clothing that was made for an anorexic ant.. saw it had been received so asked when the refund is due. Got a normal cut and paste reply from Ts & Cs, which whilst being pretty clear, wasn't really personal, just seemed a bit "computer said no"

so overall, pretty happy, I paid for 1 year next day delivery so don't have any issues there at least. But as everything else - could do with a bit better customer service.
