As it says - which pump??
I have a good track pump at home but wanted something to take with me on rides. I've never used C02 before - should I?

GPS Computer with Maps etc
Hi all,
hoping for a tip in the right direction.
I'm keen to do more road riding this year (I mainly Zwift in the comfort of my garage) if things go well I'd really like to have a bash at the Norwich 100 mile in May (see how things go I guess)
But, I'd really like to know where I'm going i.e. plan a route first - something I've never done before, normally I just head out, stop when i'm tired, eat something then come home. But Ideally i'd like to be able to plan a few 25 mile rides online say with google maps or something similar, then send it to the computer and use it as a sat nav.
does this exist?
it's it HORRENDOUSLY expensive?
I had thought about using my phone but battery life is always an issue and i'd rather keep that for music and emergency "help i'm stuck" situations.

Re: He wasn't in a Wange Wover
Oh him being a tit is hardly going to end the world for sure. I mean there are bigger morons out there in positions of power that worry more than this guy being entitled
But yes, I don't believe the law side of it is the issue. It's more the guy being an ass. and certainly from the point of view from the second video I see little reason to be there in the first place. Yes Yes I agree with you, he CAN be there and doesn't legally have to move etc etc etc. But come on....get a life! any life! doesn't have to be glamourous but geez gotta be more to it that hitting up a police station to record absolutely nothing.
Yes each to their own and what's good for me might not be good for him and I certainly wouldn't want a law against what I find fun no more than there should be a law on anyone elses (within reason - I mean if murder is your idea of fun then clearly that law should remain
)

Re: He wasn't in a Wange Wover
I think my main gripe is he uploaded it to social media.
Which I suggest is more due to my problem with social media than the person himself. Recording an incident for evidence to then base a complaint on is one thing - and yes if this then ends up on social media it's bound to spread.
But this in conjunction with the second video suggests to me that the man is actually seeking the attention. It doesn't appear that he's trying to prove anything in terms of "look, our local police are breaking the law and i'm oppressed" so I stick to the sentiment of it being legal but hold to the "the guys a knob and what's the point"
Ok, so legally he's in the clear - his attitude is still terrible, it's still very confrontational. Again no law against being an arsehat but still... this shouldn't be acceptable behaviour.
Even if a police office wasn't present we should expect more of ourselves and others. Simply accepting it because it's lawful just escalates the attitude. I'd rather make the moron realise he's being a moron.

not that i'm keen to disagree with you as I think the guys a knob.
but he's not outside Marham. He's as per the link above. Great Yarmouth, outside the police investigation centre.
There is no Pets at home outside Marham for that matter.

Re: He wasn't in a Wange Wover
he was asked rather simply why are you filming.
using his usual attitude as per previous video replied with something along the lines of "it's personal"
ok, no law against him filming.
BUT
WHY for the love of god would you take your child to a police station, purely to film them, purely to reply to their query with "personal" come on if someone was filming your front door would you take "personal" as a reason? no! would you accept because they can it's ok? NO!
It's definitely provocation - he's there for no other reason than to escalate things purely for 5 minutes of facebook fame to bulster his sad little life.
then moan that they've upset his son by detaining him under whatever rule they detained him under.
Simply put, if he had taken his lad to the damned park and got on with his life no one would be unhappy, but because he's entitiled to spend his day micturating people off he feels he should, and people are happy to defend that right or label it as "left wing this, right wing that" how about just integrity? how about simply "don't be a dick" it's crazy.
Such an entitled country we live in.

previous page.
it's my post - purely put "he's back it seems"
so the following posts are generally based on that video rather than the school one.
Now, perhaps it won't change your mind - but, to me, there is no reason to be in this other location other than to provocate. Ok, I agree he "can" doesn't mean he should.
If you can't find it i'll try to re-link. Have a watch, I think it paints a bad picture of the man.

I see.
So wearing a cycling mask and refusing to do what people tell you is 'provocation'?
Remarkable.
you haven't seen the other video I posted I assume. Perhaps worth reading other posts before jumping up on that high horse

It's akin to walking into Baghdad and moaning that you got shot.
nothing more than entitlement - I can therefore I should.
I'd rather he get locked up so police can concentrate on important crimes than this moron with too much time on his hands

Re: Upper Body Circuits?
ANTONISH wrote:whoof wrote:If you are looking for general fitness and conditioning I would recommend press-ups, dead-lift, squat and sit-ups. These exercise major muscle groups and will deliver good results for your input, as opposed to something like bicep curls. I know that squats may sound a bit odd if you are already cycling but that isn't load bearing, is not doing your hamstrings and even the leg muscles it does do move in a very linear way. I would also do some stretching.
As to riding with a club it would be best to get out on the road. You need to be able to corner, descend, drink from a bottle, look over your shoulder and hold your line all within close proximity with others.
This is sound advice - even if it doesn't improve your cycling (IMO it probably will, else why would professional cyclists do it ?) maintaining general body strength is as important as fitness.
While cycling is good for aerobic fitness, it doesn't alone make for an overall strong body - and that is important as one ages.
I'm impressed that the OP can do an hour on the turbo - I find that twenty minutes seems like an age.
great advice on both. Whilst I appreciate the sentiment regarding becoming a better cyclist by cycling that's great for one aspect and that's cycling, but that's not really my end goal - I did used to ride with a group every weekend so i'm not completely inept in a group, of course every day's a schoolday haha. My point being, I can't just get on the bike and go out, I plan my working out around my normal life, so sometimes that's pretty late in the evening, as such the turbo works for me. May not be everyones cup of tea but for me it's great.
I've just joined Darebee forum and they have hundreds of circuits around what i'm looking for so might give that a bash - I will certainly heed your advice on squats though as you're 100% correct, I'm working the legs but with no weight bearing and I certainly feel it in my hamstrings more than anything so stretching and full body is probably the circuits I'll use more than perhaps just focussing on upper body.
But yes, with the group ride bits, they have a beginner group and i'll be sitting in there, i'm not expecting to rock up and lead the pack or anything like that, the group thing is more for social that anything, training for me will also be "gym" based. I would perhaps like to eventually maybe do a proper sportive or maybe a time trial or two but i'm not looking at that any time soon.
Fitter, Stronger and a little less bodyfat - that's the aim. The bike is merely a tool to achieve that.
Oh and with the time thing, Zwift is brilliant for that! really makes the time go, keeps it interesting etc. When I used to use rollers 10 minutes was long enough! I just completed a 2 hour ride yesterday on my turbo and would be happy to do the same tonight. It's keeping it fun....Sore ass but fun

Upper Body Circuits?
Hi all,
so, i'm currently using the turbo trainer and Zwift to build up my cycling fitness ready for this year (intending to join the local club for rides with real people)
at the moment this consists of 1 hour on the turbo 3 times a week doing interval training.
I was wondering if anyone here is a PT or similar and could advise some upper body workouts to do once i'm off the bike? Or potentially do full body training (although legs will be hindered!)
I was thinking of just running a 5 station circuit for 60 seconds a station, rest after full circuit then go through say 4-5 sets.
I have dumbells, kettlebells, sandbags, a punch bag and of course myself (which is a decent sized weight!)
SO perhaps:
Deadlifts,
KB Swings,
Incline rows,
Renegade Rows,
Pushups,
Cleans,
etc.
But would welcome advice. I'm really not looking for the skinny cycling look - I'm a big guy and would like to maintain a larger frame so I imagine my strength circuits would be more hypertrophy biased perhaps?
I box once-twice a week, attend BJJ once a week and then cycle three times a week. I eat enough to sustain this haha.

hamster wrote:Well the Campag BB will set you back something like £15.
What are you trying to achieve by swapping groupset?
On a turbo the weight of it doesn't matter, nor weatherproofing. It will be almost infinite in life as there is no muck get on the drivetrain, keep the chain oiled and it will last.
that's the thing really, I'm not looking for top of the range or anything, the goal is purely for it to work - not much other than that. So realistically keeping the rest of the group is the better choice and just replacing the dead parts.
Cugel wrote:Sell the turbo trainer and buy refurbishment parts with the dosh. If there's any change, use it to buy cycling clothing for the winter. Go out into reality and learn to cycle there, since learning to cycle in virtual land teaches you only how to push hard on the pedals.....
I don't know whether you've realised but there are 99 other necessary skills to learn before you can be a cyclist. They involve dealing with real roads, weather, other traffic and a host of other stuff not yet rendered in any convincing way by Zwift.
Cugel
and if that works for you great, it's not really what i'm after. I'm a fitness cyclist nothing more, Zwift gives me good training plans to assist with that. If I can't call myself a cyclist as I don't possess the other 99 attributes that's fine, as long as I get a bit healthier and lose some lard i'm happy. I'm not looking for a cycling simulator - Zwift is just very effective at not getting bored on a turbo ride. I spend enough time on the road in the car. If the weather is nice, I'll go out for a ride with some friends other than that i'm really happy with Zwift I think of it as another piece of equipment in the gym.
Brucey wrote:the main problem with riding out of doors this time of year is that it is routinely dark, cold, and horrible outside. The road salt is a real bike-killer too. The main problem with turbo trainers is that it is mind-numbingly boring, so anything that alleviates the boredom is a good thing.
Be sure that your 'squeaky BB' isn't a pedal or chain problem, (or isn't very simply dealt with by using a squirt of lube) before you shell out to fix it. On a dedicated turbo training bike all you need is one working gear (if you can vary the resistance some other way) and that is it. Any old heap of (literally) junk will do. The main problem with the bike then becomes
a) how the loads are transferred from the trainer into the bike (broken frames are not unknown) and
b) corrosion; sweat is highly corrosive stuff and it drips onto the bike when you are turbo training in a way that it doesn't when you are riding on the road. Seized stems and various bits corroding like fury on turbo bikes is not unusual.
I would just replace the bits like-for like where possible, unless the cost is daft in which case I'd use something else. If the plan is not to use this bike on the road in the future, I wouldn't be too fussy about the replacement parts, pretty much anything will do.
cheers
yeah tried Lube and no luck. It's only on the gear side too, and only when pressure is applied to that side. It sounds as though the bearing is knocking - that's what it sounds like anyway.
see I do need to change gear with Zwift, whilst it does change the resistance, I need to change gear to put the required wattage in otherwise it's all down to cadence.
Take your input though, like for like is clearly the way to go. Think if I purely get the drive side of things perfect it'll be great - a bloody good clean will probably be my starting point.

Turbo Trainer Groupset
Morning All!!
So, I've gotten myself a Bianci bike, got a nice little smart Turbo trainer and currently working through some Zwift Training plans in order to build some stamina ready for better weather.
Now, i'm really enjoying things and quite liking training indoors.
Sadly though, the bike could do with a full service, bit squeaky and hadn't been used for quite some time when I bought it.
The BB at least is going to want swapping out.
This got me thinking - maybe I could upgrade a little and just modernise some of it (without going mad!) to give a better Turbo ride and just be a better bike ready for summer.
So, what would you upgrade to? Currently running on Campag Xenon. Wheels i'm not too fussed about at this stage - esepcially as the front wheel isn't moving!
Break Calipers I'm not fussed about as they aren't being used at the moment.
So it would only be part of a groupset. I was thinking perhaps going for an older shimano 105 or something like that. Or should I stick with Campag and purely get a new BB and possibly crank.
Long term the Bianci will be purely a Turbo bike, and i'll get something for the road but for now it'll be the swiss army knife bike

Essentially i've got as couple on the possible list.
The bianci,
the Focus above
or this lapierre https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 363615616/
Now, all around the same price. I'm really aiming to be around the £150 mark so i'll be haggling on whatever one I go for. The focus is appealing with Ultegra, but then the lapierre has a newer tiagra so probably not alot in that.
I mean it is going to sit on a turbo. But I'd like to get the best bike I can at the budget I want to spend.
