Re: there's always one........

You should be fine with that mileage, and will probably get fitter as you do it. We have never actually cycle toured before, but have done many long distance paths with full camping kit, with no specific training beforehand. The first couple of days are always hard, then we seem to find it much easi...

Re: Introductions - tell us about yourself

Hi. My real name is Alex. I am 41 and am very much into the outdoors. Married with 2 kids. Met husband at university climbing club. I no longer climb. He does occasionally. Before kids we did lots of long distance walking, Pennine Way, Tour of Mont Blanc etc. Have always mountain biked, and got a fu...

Will let you know how I get on once it arrives. Am really excited. Can't wait to get going!!! Thankyou everyo...

Re: ... about setting up a Trailgator?

Hi. I have seen a lot of these tilted, but that is poor setup. I've just fixed it for me second son, having used it very succesfully for his older brother. If you get it well bolted on to both bikes, I don't see how it could lean. BUT - you do need to take some care when bolting it to the childs bik...

Re: Help me buy a tourer.

Also, I may not have mentioned, I will be using the bike for touring with camping gear, so front panniers will probably be required. Do Audax bikes have attachments for these, or is this a 'how long is a piece of string' question?

Re: Help me buy a tourer.

LOL! Thanks for all the great advice, but can I clarify that I am not changing 'over to the dark side', I am merely expanding my repertoire. I shall continue to ride my mountain bike, but will also be doing more road riding, and hopefully family touring holidays as the kids get older. I promise I wi...

Re: Help me buy a tourer.

Thanks for that. In reference to sloping tubes, I mean the ones that are specifically for women so you can wear a skirt!? A slightly sloping tube is fine.

Re: Help me buy a tourer.

Wow! I am amazed by the response I have had. Thankyou everybody. In answer to some questions, I am 5'8 with long arms and long legs. I have discounted women's bikes as I don't like the sloping down crossbar. I am too old to be too bothered about how a bike looks. I am much more interested in the qua...

Help me buy a tourer.

I am a mountain biker but am looking for a roadbike. After lots of research I think I need a tourer. It will be used for fitness rides, family rides and cycle touring, initially short trips with the kids. I have about £1000. Any advice please?
