Re: Trail / All Mountain Bike

Depends whether you are looking for full suspension or not. 'All mountain' implies rear shocks which can be expensive so you will be unlikely to get anything decent for under a grand. Also, some cycle to work schemes only work with full priced bikes, so you might be better looking for a good deal on...

Re: Four recent reads

Had it for Christmas from hubby (Mud, Sweat and Gears) and have nearly finished it. Can't wait to go to bed each night to read the next bit. Hubby looking forward to reading it, then we've just got to wait until the kids are old enough to leave so we can do the trip! :? Did enjoy David Millar's book...

Re: Anyone ride a road bike on canal paths?

Depends on the surface. Ellesmere Port to Chester has parts that are really uncomfortable on my Dawes Galaxy. Broken up concrete surface. It's awful. Muddy paths (when dry) are preferable.

Re: A childs bike with hub gears ?

We have just got a 16" wheel ISLA bike for my very small (100cm) 4 year old. It fits him perfectly. If you were to go the Isla Bike route, he would probably be able to have 20" wheels, which may compensate for not having hub gears(?). Isla Bikes are so light these days. We have been so imp...

Re: Cyclocross models

Can I ask why a cyclocross is best suited to your needs? Just asking as I was in a similar situation not too long ago. I wanted something other than a mountain bike to use on roads. I decided on a touring bike as I wanted the range of gears (we live in a hilly area) and I also wanted to be able to u...

Re: Cyclocross models

My husband has a 56cm Tricross, which was upgraded for touring when he bought it. He is 5'11". The bike is fairly big for him, but he wouldn't want a smaller one.

Re: Ladies

I have a really uncomfortable saddle on my mountain bike, which I put up with. When I got my new Dawes Galaxy 6 months ago, it came with a Selle Italia FLX, which I find infinitely more comfy than my Fiziq MTB saddle. I am quite happy to go out on it without padded shorts. I guess it should be more ...

Re: How is Karrimor these days?

My mum used to know Jeniffer Parsons, daughter of Charlie Parsons about 50 years ago, when she (my mum) lived in Rossendale. Charlie started Karrimor by making bicycle panniers and expanded from that. It was sold to a different company about 12 years ago, but Jeniffer (who runs the OMM, formerly kno...

Re: Repairing paint chips

Boo hoo. Have just noticed a cm squared chip on the fork of my Galaxy. Is it possible to get paint to touch it up? If so, where from? Is it really worth bothering. You'll only get another one sometime. Trying to stop the paintwork on bikes getting damaged is like trying to stand a pencil on it's po...
