Re: After the Petition, what next?

If I gave discretion to the Chair to cast my proxy vote I would not expect him or her to cast it against the position of Council. If I wanted my vote cast that way I would say so.

Simon - the vote in Belfast was tied and the Chair used her casting vote, which quite correctly should favour the status quo. This is not the same as casting proxies.

Re: After the Petition, what next?

Hi Karen, I know that is one of the stated grounds for the re-vote, but it is not supported by the Club's legal advice which is quite clear that the Chairman acted correctly. If you have any other equally authoritative advice to the contrary it would be interesting to hear it.

Presumably the main motivation behind the demand for a re-vote is to defeat Council's intentions to move to an integrated membership charitable organisation.

I can understand the need for the provision for a vote of all Club members in a situation where a disputed decision may be taken at an unrepresentative and poorly attended AGM. I am less convinced that it is right to do this when all members have already had the chance to vote by proxy.

I hope that Members having considered the very strong case for the steps proposed by Council will vote to confirm the AGM decsion.

Sorry I forgot to sign off my last post and as my username gives no clues, I want to correct that!

Re: After the Petition, what next?

I am very much in favour of the CTC becoming an integrated Membership Charity and I was pleased that at the AGM the Members voted for the principle albeit by a narrow majority. I hope that the present vote will confirm that decision.

It is important that the debate is based firmly on relevant facts. Could the Regulator explain why the opportunity for a poll of the whole Club would be lost if we become a Membership Charity? The proposed M&A submitted to the AGM made no change to that provision as far as I am aware.

I just went through the experience of buying a Thorn Audax 3 and I have to say I have only good things to report.

Staff friendly and helpful.
Options explained sensibly.
Careful measurement of my existing bike and notes made of my preferences for adjustments to set-up.
Able to see bikes being assembled.
Full spec of selected bike and options printed.
Bike available ahead of agreed date.
Set-up perfect.
Paint finish (now powder-coated) is brilliant.
Bike rides really well.

I am a happy customer and would recommend them. It's worth going there to order though - I went by train from Essex and got some very cheap tickets by advance booking. Collected the bike the same way, but I was glad I had taken pipe lagging to protect the frame on the train back to Paddington. Some idiot just threw his bike against mine instead of securing it in the racks. He got some verbals from me and others at Paddington!

My experience with CRC has been nothing but first class. Latest example - ordered pedals on Wednesday afternoon, arrived with post Thursday morning. It'll be a shame if they really do have 'issues'.

Thanks for the info' julk. So it's not their system at fault. Why they have not replied is beyond me. The annoying thing is I bought a bike from them just under a year ago which means I have a good personal discount for the next couple of days. I can't believe they are waiting for that to run out, or are they.....?

Logging-in to Wiggle

For some reason I can't log into Wiggle. I've tried allowing all cookies, whitelisting cookies from Wiggle and resetting my password. Still can't log in though.

I e.mailed them about this last Wednesday, but still no reply the following Monday, despite reminders in the interim. To make sure it wasn't some block on my ISP's server in their spam filters preventing the mail getting through, I sent again via Yahoo on Friday.

Not being able to log in is a sure way of them losing sales. Is anyone else having trouble? When you ring their number you get a message saying you can e.mail them and get a personal reply very quickly!

I have had some good service from Wiggle, but not being able to phone in these circumstances is a big negative.

It would have gladdened the hearts of all you good people to have seen what happened at Darsham station in Suffolk early on Sunday morning after the overnight Dunwich Dynamo ride from London.

There were 21 of us waiting for the first train back! The train had 4 bike spaces and three well occupied coaches.

We all got on!!

The lady guard was not a happy cookie and at Ipswich they had been forewarned and would not let us get on the first train towards London. She did say it would not happen again, but as they don't allow booking on that line at weekends (explain that One Railway!) it's hard to see how it can be avoided.

I agree with most of the comments in this thread. I go on a cycling trip with 4 others each May and we always try to avoid using road vehicles to get to where we want to cycle - usually hilly places. Since the Pendolinos came in on WCML that line is out. Let's hope FGW and the ECML don't get updated stock any time soon. Both are good at the present time for bike carriage. I should also say my local line (One GE) is good too.

Just to round this one off, the bike arrived at lunchtime yesterday and I am delighted with it (2007 Focus Cayo Triple) and the timescale for delivery. The bike was very well prepared and set up and I only had to turn and tighten the bars before being ready for the road.

So Wiggle are in my good books. I just wish they would reconsider the 'phone contact issue. If that had been available, this thread would never have started because they would have told me on Wednesday that "not yet processed" meant "processing not completed" and I would have gone away a happy man.

Incidentally the e.mail contact seems to produce a response in about 4 working hours, which in most circumstances would be pretty good. However when it's a substitute for a phone it ideally needs to be quicker than that.

Update on above - Wednesday 14.30

Have now had an e.mail confirming the order has been processed. If the bike arrives tomorrow or Friday that will be fine and they will have delivered within the timescales they quote.

Whilst writing this I have also had a call from them about my e.mails and this posting. I have told them I don't like not having a phone contact point, but that I am happy with the timescales. I think it would also be a good idea to make it clear on the website what is meant by "order not yet processed". Once someone has looked at the order it would be better to say "order being prepared" to show it has been picked up.

It is to their credit that they rung me to discuss the issues and I appreciate that very much.

I will be continuing to shop with Wiggle and as I said before I have had nothing but excellent service in the past.

I have used Wiggle since they started up. The first time I ordered they rang me to discuss the order, although I think they were mostly interested in knowing how I found them. Since then I have placed quite a few orders which have been handled very promplty and efficiently.

However I am not too pleased with them today. I ordered a bike from them on Monday afternoon and got the standard automated response which says: "You will receive an email with stock and despatch information as soon as one of our staff reviews your order. This will be within one working day."

It's now Wednesday morning and I have heard nothing and the detail in "my account" says order "not yet processed".

If this means they haven't even looked at it I'm not at all pleased!

I e.mailed them after 24 hours but have had no reply as yet.

I tried all the phone numbers I could find in these forums but they have all been blocked with a message that you should e.mail customer services who will reply very quickly. Utter rubbish!

I am not at all happy they have shut themselves off from phone contact. I think their customer focus is being lost.

I'll update this when and if I hear something, but I would be interested to know if anyone else has ordered a bike from Wiggle and how long it took for the order to be processed and then how long for delivery of a stocked item.

Great ride it was! My first Dynamo at the age of 63 and got there on my faithful Galaxy at 5.55, very very wet. Will be back next year, health permitting.

Regarding the train mentioned above, there were 22 bikes on it! The lady guard had aperplexy (understandably - only 4 spaces) and told us it would never happen again! She also told us at Ipswich that One Railway was a cycle friendly company. Then were were not allowed to get on the connecting train to London, but ushered onto the following one. She also advised us to book in future, but sadly you can't book on that line at weekends. How they expect to manage the situation when you can't book defeats me.
