Descending scares the bjeebers out of me so I never use the drops for that. One of the reasons I went for the Voyage is the Tektro 570 Top Levers, it means I can descend at my own pace with brakes at hand using the tops. I only use the drops in a strong headwind which allows plenty of time to go back to the tops for braking or if necessary use the drop leavers for emergency.

The bars are about four inches lower than where they would have been twenty years ago. This is pure hype and reflects the social dominance of road bikes in our cultural mindset. Shame on Ridgeback who by all accounts make good bikes. The bars should be about an inch below the saddle to get the best out of the bike but there is nothing wrong with them being a bit higher too.
I agree, there is a trend towards road bike fitting. I do not mind adding the extender but it dose add one more weak point and looks a little ugly. I think when I come to re-tape the bars I will move the drop leavers up a little and then move the bars back to a more traditional angle, but I do like the height I now have.
It may have been better to buy the 54cm bike rather than the 56cm, it may have bought me closer to the bars, but living in the middle of nowhere in France I had to buy from the internet and went with the sizing chart at UKbikedepot.

Handlebar Position for Touring
Hi All,
I am intrigued to know how others set their bars for touring, both height and position in relation to your saddle. When I bought my Ridgeback Voyage, I found that the one thing that bugged me was how low the handlebars were set, it was almost a racing position.
To change this I bought an extender. The other thing was the position of the hoods (which is my default hand position), they were too far round the bend of the bars so I had to tilt the bars towards me more than I wanted. I know this position is not to everyone's taste, but when touring I like to travel slowly and take in the scenery, which the low racing position dose not afford me.
So it would be interesting to see your handlebar positions.

Re: Bike buying advice
Hi Matt,
the B'Twin Riverside 1from Decathlon is worth a butchers. I road one of these in France for a while and found it to be a good bike, and the price is very good too.

Bar bag for Ridgeback Voyage
Hi All,
new here but not to cycle touring (although a little rusty). I have just bought a Ridgeback Voyage to do a little light touring, nothing more than two or three weeks at a time, but mainly weekends.
I wondered if anyone else here with this bike can suggest a handlebar bag with the best fittings for the Voyage please? I live in France and am out in the sticks so I will have to buy from the internet, so I need to know before hand which bag will fit well with the horizontal break leavers on the Voyage.
Thanks for any help,
Simon.
