Re: Anyone know what makes a free enterprise economy work?

Ah yes, Local Authority housing.......how is that allocated again? "To each according to need....." ..I read somewhere. Over the road from me is a Local Authority 3 bedroom house. In the house live a couple, they are younger than me (I'm 65). Both work, no children have ever lived permane...

Re: Anyone know what makes a free enterprise economy work?

The utilities went out to the 'free market' as did the railways and soon to be the schools and the health service. Are they any better left to compete in the market? Of course not, they are far worse. When people realise that transport, health, education and basic utilities need to be publicly owne...

Re: Anyone know what makes a free enterprise economy work?

Well, it doesn't work does it? It lurches from boom to bust because that is inherent in it's nature. At it's heart is an ideology that believes human nature is fundamentally selfish and greedy. It is based on the value of profit - therefore anything that makes a profit must be 'right' regardless of ...

Anyone here get any Kraftwerk tickets?

They are doing a stint at the turbine hall in Tate Modern and playing a whole album per night.
Tickets went on sale yesterday at 7.30am.
Huge demand and web site crashed, phone engaged all day. Sold out now!
Just wondered if anyone here got any?

Re: Viscount bicycles!!

Just couldn't resist posting up another picture! I got out for an hour this afternoon. I had a blast! Came back from town down a fairly steep but small hill, got up plenty of speed down to traffic lights that were on green- (it's a one way road and I had plenty of road space), it turns into a 90degr...

Re: Tips for getting stuck seat post out?

This might be covered in the previous post (too good to lose), but here goes... When I've encountered this problem and others like it before, I've used Plus Gas. Pour some in around the top of the post and leave to work it's way down overnight. If you are not going to use the post again, drill a ho...

Tips for getting stuck seat post out?

Hi, Any tips to help get a stuck seat post out? It's jammed fast and I doubt any of the WD40 I'm spraying on is getting anywhere inside either. Also, I am not the only one with trouble as it has so many marks on the post where the previous owner has had a go Thanks in advance http://farm9.staticflic...

Re: which language to learn

Whichever one you go for, check out Michel Thomas course/method.
There's a great iPhone app. App is free, but you download each course separately. However, they are reasonable price in my opinion.

Btw - Google/Wiki, Michel Thomas - he has a life story to beat most.

Re: Lovely ride today!

I was out for a nice ride yesterday afternoon, as I finished work at lunch. Then did loads of little trips around town today that would have taken me ages in the car. I'm loving this 'new' Viscount Sport. It handles very well, and I have so much faith in it. Here's a a pic. http://farm9.staticflickr...

Re: Viscount bicycles!!

Just took advantage of lunch time finish at work and some decent (but cold) weather, and got out on the 'new' Sport I love the way a Viscount handles...When I got back home and told my wife I'd just had a great time she asked 'what is it that makes it good or better than other bikes'? And to be hone...

Re: Payment by bank transfer?

I wrote cheques for years without any issues. A cheque has my name and bank details. Of course I was sending cheques to companies organisations or individuals I trusted. I wouldn't be concerned about receiving a payment by bank transfer from a long standing member of this forum. That said can't rem...

Payment by bank transfer?

Hi all, Don't know if this is the right area for this question but anyway... Someone has offered to buy a bike from me on the forum and wants to pay by bank transfer. I would have preferred Paypal for many reasons, but that's besides the point now. What details do they need of my bank account to pay...
