There does seem quite a bit of room each side of the chain when on the sprocket (cassette) but appreciate a 10 speed chain is narrower and so may shift better, so will buy one.
I did take it out today, and after a few minor adjustments it rode quite well, but do take the point that a 10 speed chain was designed to work best with a 10 speed group set.

10 speed chain
Apologies if this topic has been done to death, bit I’ll ask anyway.
I have recently changed from a 9 speed compact chainset to a 10 speed Campagnolo triple setup on one of my bikes. I am using a 9 speed chain at the moment and it seems to be working wellish, but a little hesitant on some of the larger sprockets. All of the components are in good condition without much wear.
I am just wondering if a 10 speed chain would work better, although they seem pretty similar there will obviously be a difference in the width.
Cheers

Re: Triple Chainset middle ring
Thanks for that guys, I am encouraged to give it a go and see what happens, and if it worked for you Trev, hopefully it will work for me.
I think Brucey underlined what I was wondering, the shift between inner and middle…I seldom use the big ring these days unless there is a strong following wind.

Triple Chainset middle ring
HI
I have a triple Campag Centaur 10 speed chainset that has a middle 42T ring on it. I would like to fit the pictured 39T TA ring in its place. It’s the correct PCD.
My question is, do you think this one will work as intended, I seem to remember reading somewhere that the middle ring needs to be specific for that purpose. The said ring has been lying around for years and I can’t remember if I used it as an inside double or on a triple?

Re: Tread repair?
Interesting question, as I was about to ask the same one myself.
Has anyone actually used the Black Witch adhesive for that purpose, all the Wiggle reviews I read seem mention wetsuit repairs.

Could someone read it please and explain it to me, it looks "involved" but certainly interesting. I haven't come across that before.

Re: Campagnolo Record Bottom Braclet
I have ploughed through that page before Brucey, and frankly it leaves me more confused than ever if we are talking about the same one.
I would never argue the case for sealed vs loose bearings adjuster cups with lockrings etc, as I have sealed ones on my more modern bikes, but to me the latter has to be fitted to a 70’s bike to satisfy my taste.
The 68 refers to the bottom bracket width doesn’t it? So if all of mine are marked 68 I would have thought they were all English……I dunno?
Royce are indeed nice, but maybe on the expensive side, and harder to track down.

Re: Campagnolo Record Bottom Braclet
Mick. I thought Italian axles were 115mm long, but may well be wrong.
As for using a sealed BB...na, I just like the old stuff better.

Campagnolo Record Bottom Braclet
Hello.
I could use some advice please.
I am looking for a Campagnolo bottom bracket to use with a Record chainset I have. The cranks have a 5 in a diamond which I believe dates it at 1975, so think I need a 112mm axle to fit my frame which is an English standard 68mm wide.
Pictured here are a selection of old axles I have, none of which I consider good enough to use.
This is where my confusion lies.
Three of them are marked 68 –SS – 120, which I always thought was pretty standard and are 112mm long. The third is stamped 68 – SSA and is 111mm long. If you look at the picture you will see that two share the same distance between bearings to the other two.
Logic tells me that they are designed to use with different cups. As I remember there were thin ones, and thick ones? As I have no spare cups to compare them with, hopefully one of you gentlemen or ladies will know.
BTW if anyone has a suitable Campag bottom bracket that is surplus to them please PM me.
Regards
John

I ran a 9 speed on my Vitus 979 with no problems whatsoever. Both aluminium, so don't think you would have any problems.
