Is this terminal?

My sister in law has given me this bike to strip down and sell the parts for her, as her bike shop has said the frame is cracked and unsellable.
I have had a look at it and the only thing I can see wrong with it this damage on one of the dropouts.
Would the learned members here consider the damage terminal, and would you feel safe riding it yourself?
It would be a shame to ditch the frame if its ridable I think.
I should add she rides her bikes quite a lot but has no idea mechanically, and has no idea where the crack is the shop mentioned.

Unusual tread pattern

I don't expect many, if any here are still using tubs, but if you still dabble, has anyone seen this pattern on a Continental Giro tub.
I have used them in the past, and they have always had a herringbone tread but this one, I recently bought as a spare is different.
I have seen this tread on many other continental tyres but not on a tub.
There's nothing wrong with it, I am just curious.

Really? so a heavy rider on a heavy bike shouldn't be allowed to ride on the same path as you.
Everyones welcome on a standard push bike, but if its all being powered along by a powerful motor at 20mph (often without the rider pedalling) then it should be on the road.

And what about these giant cargo bikes with the load placed in front of the rider like a battering ram, no place for them on shared paths either.
That's not really what you said though is it, I can agree with the rest of what you say.
For disclosure, I ride a (LEGAL) heavy Ebike, and am 12 stone.

Re: Front wheel gap filler

I’ve sold quite a few of my bikes over the last few years and used up all I have had for front fork dropout spacers, threaded bar, dowel, and proper made for the job spacers, as well as bodging up bits of wood, glad this is the last one.

cycleruk wrote: 7 Jan 2024, 6:33pm I used a bit of wood with flats sawn at the ends to suit the drop-outs. Can't remember what I used to keep them in place but tape should suffice. The wood can be made a tight fit so keeps itself in place.
Thanks,I have some off cuts and may well end up doing that again.

A piece of threaded rod, some washers and some wing nuts:

Thanks Will, I have done that too, thing is I don't have any threaded bar or wing nuts come to that, or even dowel, so would probable be just as easy to find the proper thing if possible. I never like going into bike shops and asking for something for nothing, but may bite the bullet.

That is my usual method exactly, guess I'll be doing that again then :)

Front wheel gap filler

I need to post a bike and would like to put a spacer between the forks to protect them while in transit.
I usually just use a piece of wood or whatever is at hand, but thought for this one I would buy the proper thing, they can't be that expensive can they.
Problem is I don't know what they're called, does anyone have a link please?

I found this Youtube video, which I found helpful, though I am no closer to buying one.

francovendee wrote: 2 Jan 2024, 9:23am I bought a bike from a German company that had one of these motors and I had the reverse problem, going up hills it was very quiet but on the flat a rattling sound came from the motor. I knew it was motor related because the noise wasn't there when riding without assist.
After many emails and a video of me riding it with and without the noise they finally agreed to take it bake and give me a full refund.
It was a real shame as in all other ways I really liked the bike.
I'll be interested to see what others have found with the steps motor.
If it was a Canyon, I think you are not the only one to have this rattle. I was considering buying one myself but frankly it's put me off buying.

It would great if it was the right size and you could try it out. If so, please report back with your findings. If it has the waist cinch strap, please try it on the bike with the strap both loose and cinched.
My son is strong, fit and slim, I'm not, but i will get it on if it kills me

pjclinch wrote: 31 Dec 2023, 5:06pm I can't agree you can get a Mountain Shirt or similar as cool as a T-shirt.
Which is not what I said. 'Akin to' means of similar nature or character, not 'the same as'. With the front fully unzipped and the sleeves pulled up, the ventilation will allow a lot of body heat to be lost, especially so in breezy/windy conditions.

The bottom line is that the vast majority of users of Buffalo clothing are relatively fit, healthy individuals with an active lifestyle. Even when standing around those individuals are likely by virtue of a higher metabolic rate to be generating significantly more body heat than someone who is elderly, infirm, unfit or in poor health, and sensitive to feeling the cold.

If Vetus Ossa were to buy a Buffalo Shirt and confirm that it worked really well for him despite the fact that he was riding an ebike at a low intensity, and despite his sensitivity to the cold, that would be a valuable endorsement of the products' effectiveness for all groups of people. However, I am not confident that it would be as effective as a much cheaper insulated jacket, and given the high cost of Buffalo tops I think buying one would be an unnecessarily expensive gamble compared with buying something like the much cheaper Decathlon insulated jacket, which djnotts found worked very well for him.
I will report back when I have decided what to buy.

I think you can get a battery rebuilt here, but Torquay may be too far away for you.
