Re: Item returns law.

Hi. I recently ordered a Tubus rack from a very well known bike shop. It arrived with parts missing and partly bent. It very clearly stated that it had to be returned with a carriage option that required a signature. I did this and it cost £11.80 the cheapest available at the post office. However t...

Re: Not a good start to 2013...........

Hi, Take it easy, I wish that I had time to do 5200 miles. I dont always think that lots of miles always equates to more fitness than a lower milage at a higher work load :?: It does depend on the type of cycling you do, if leisure fill your boots, if training for something ? only you know. I wish y...

Re: Long day ride advice - 240 miles

The numbness you experienced may be due to the angle of your saddle. Perhaps the nose was too high. Good quality shorts should also make a difference. Other things to consider, You will be on the road for 20 or so hours. Lights will be neccessery as will clothing to keep you comfortable throughout ...

Re: Long day ride advice - 240 miles

but more important lt its your underwear Do not wear underwear under your shorts. Proper cycling shorts with a padded insert are designed to be worn next to the skin. Hi I thought this last night in bed  I did for some time not wear underwear, makes sense. I only have cheap shorts today. I wi...

Re: Long day ride advice - 240 miles

Hi, Talking from experience of 240 + in 24h : Totally unsupported, carry all food from start. I would ditch the saddle they might be well favoured in the touring clubs but this is no std ctc ride. I found on long rides that it cut into inner thigh. You want a thinner saddle so no rub. I know they do...

Re: LOOSE CRANK ARM BOLT WOBBLE CURE GREASE THREAD LOCK

Ok so what you are saying is that a virtually seized crank is more difficult to undo than a new one because the new one has not had the time for the "bond" between dissimilar metals to form. Presumably you are referring to galvanic corrosion. Due to differing potential of the two metals a...

Re: Legs, or lack of them.

Hi, On indoor training I normally listen to my favorite music, and at same time imagine I am on a ride somewhere. I do not watch the mph or clocks apart from ocasional look to see when I finish. Otherwise time drags. If you cant imagine then hard work concentrating. I use a turbo type trainer, which...

Re: Legs, or lack of them.

I'm 60. Nowhere near 75 or 98! A snack, I never thought of that. Only out for two or three hours I wouldn't normally stop, let alone eat anything, but it sounds like a good idea. I'll try it next time out - maybe Sunday or Monday. Hi, My training rides last year in the order of 2.15hr - 2.25h...

Re: Legs, or lack of them.

re the virus thing; I an told that reasearch testing show that the best way to recover quickly from a mild viral illness without losing peak conditioning (for athletes) is to do no more than ~25mins level 1 every other day during the illness. This is about the same as going for a walk for a mile or...

I would happily garotte those cheerful buggers who come out with "you're not getting any younger, you know" when I know damn well I'm just out of training. Hi, This type of ugly quip is exactly what led to in parts to me not cycling for nearly ten years :!: Said to me by an older fellow c...

HI, Wild camping on dartmoor since 1974, I was camping one trip and on the way home had to releive myself. Desperate I was, next to road but elevated, dived in to bracken for the deed. When I got home Legs still grubby from a two day cycle on the moors, went to the bathroom and saw some very small b...

Re: MTB to old hybrid

Hi, More the different tyres, different tread. Admittely they will handle differently to. A mtb with the right tyres would be ok. They are also more robust. Most mtb's were fitted with the wrong tyres, just too knobbly a tread. For 99.9 % of mtb use's a semi road trail tyre would be fine in all but ...

Re: Legs, or lack of them.

Last winter I put myself through 3 x 45 mins on the trainer a week for three months. It did pay off later with internal fitness. This year its 2 x 60 minutes + a ride out doors of one and half to two and half hours. Trouble is the 2hr 25 min ride last year is now taken 2hr 40min. Part of this is cau...
