First they put us under house arrest - and I did nothing
Next they stopped us seeing members of our families - and I did nothing
Then they told us not to come within 2 metres of another human being - and I did nothing
Then they told us to wear a mask in supermarkets after saying masks didn't stop the virus - and I did nothing
Then they announced that the economy had shrunk by over 20% - and I did nothing
Then they closed all places of worships - and I did nothing
Then they told us were the were merely trying to flatten the curve, but continued lockdowns, long after the "curve" had been flattened - and I did nothing
Then they axed British peoples holiday's in France, Spain, The Netherlands and Croatia because of a handful of people had tested positive in those countries - and I did nothing
Then I found out Sir Patrick Vallance, Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government of the United Kingdom, had worked for 12 years GlaxoSmithKline (no conflict of interest there regarding vaccines ?) - and I did nothing
Then I found out the death rate for Covid 19 was not worse than for season flu - and I did nothing
Then I found out that the UK death rate from Covid 19 and that of other countries had been massively exaggerated, to include any who have once tested positive for Covid but had died of something completely different - and I did nothing
Than I found people had been dying of untreated cancer and other serious diseases around the world - and I did nothing
Then I found out the Coronavirus Act 2020 was set to be renewed for another 2 years with massive state powers to remove our liberties - and I did nothing
Then I found the United Kingdom was completely bankrupt because there is no magic money forest for all this spending - and I did nothing
Then it became compulsory to wear a mask in the open air, against my will, be vaccinated against my will, be tested against my will - and I did nothing
Then one day I found all the freedom's we had taken for granted had been taken away from us never to return.
What had I done to stop it? - NOTHING

Re: Gang of six-impact on Xmas
In both the Telegraph and the Grauniad this morning a number of Scientists, Government Scientists, have said that the rule of 6 is pointless and just made up on the spot ....
If we have to follow the science why are we not doing that now ... 6 is just another pointless restriction that will help no one ...
Pointless restrictions from a pointless government ...
Infections will continue to rise and deaths will not .... summer / winter flu is killing hundreds more than C-19 (ONS) ...
But somehow your invincible to one and not the other ?

Our basic family is;
6 ...
Then there is 2 mothers of the children who we have to visit separately once a week ...
7 ...
Saturday mornings, 2 Grandparents visit ...
8 ...
Sunday mornings, 2 grand parents visit ...
8 ...
Once a month ... in sun or storm there is a barbecue ... all year round ...
12 ...
And it will continue whatever a pathetic, pointless, prime minister says ....

Re: LEJOG and le grub
we did around 60 - 80 miles a day .... ate as we felt hungry, which was most of the time after 50 miles .... pub and pints in the evening ..?
mmm nice thought..
We had one 60th birthday on route and including the last night at the hotel at JOG we where all in bed / tent / camper for 9 every night ...
I lost 2 kg on the whole trip .....
As Honesty mentioned the garage / Aldi Meal Deal becomes a high protein and carb staple .... and it's good food if careful....
The sight of 7 sweaty, very mature men in lycra, having a picnic on the garage forecourt mid afternoon, probably blighted a few drivers lives ...

mattsccm wrote:Pete, in the nicest possible way you don't see the point. If i am popping up the road i put a helnet on and thats it. I know the risks are small and only use the helmet fof legal reasons. Racing off road, I know that at some point I'll come off so add armour, knee pads etc. To ride so carefully that coming off was almost impossible would mean riding to lose. Racing means taking risks which are mitigated by protective gear. Faster riders have longer necks.
I dress for the possible conseqences, within limits. When i did a lot of 4wd off roading I wore a harness if rolling the vehicle was likely but not when stuck in a bog.
I wear a climbing helmet if a fall is likely to mean a tumble or falling rock may happen. Mountain crags for example. On overhanging rock its a free swing so don't wear one.
I use a cycle helmet about half the time. Usually commuting as there are cars for the last 2 miles and there is half a mile of awful road. The risk is higher. I wear a helmet on club runs are we are in a group . Gravel riding , hill climbing in qiuet areas i don't.
Like many I balence risks. Avoiding risks is not an option.
I'm sure the mean sprits that abound on this forum will dismantle and question just about everything you sat mattsccm.
Not because they have anything positive to add, just because they can ...
I agree with all you say from my own experiences of driving, cycling and motorcycling.
The balanced risk approach and quality of life approach have granted me an exciting and fulfilling life and long it may endure.
Avoiding all levels of risk is to avoid so much of life ... The balance is the important issue.
