Re: Loctite advice please

Brucey. I do not oppose the use of thread lock. I work in a safety critical industry that will not allow it's use as a primary or secondary retention method. For a reason .... it's unreliable, causes contamination and is not considered as providing adequate locking. Many aerospace companies use it, ...

Re: Loctite advice please

I have also seen component and control system failure as a result of contamination by phenolic resins or other types of thread lock liquids hardening and flaking off into the hydraulic systems. Possibly its use on components within hydraulic disc brake systems on road and off road bikes should be co...

Re: Loctite advice please

I think it is fair to say that what works for individuals is what works. It's a bit like on bike tool kits, we all have different stuff in ours, but it works for us. I will avoid glue, others swear by it, nobody's wrong. My correctly torqued bottom bracket came loose last week ......... the joys of ...

Re: Loctite advice please

Comments aside, if anyone can find a professional stress engineer that will recommend the use of thread lock or any variant, working in a safety critical environment, let me know. My bike is not a train or an aircraft but the stuff that works is the stuff that works. Torque and rotational measuremen...

Re: Claimed and shamed

Sometimes we don't help ourselves. Well, let me know what I should have done differently. Don't attempt suicide by trying to undertake a bus between the kerb and an electric junction box on a major street with full coverage on cctv, ..... and then claim damages from the bus company. There .. that w...

...Not a drop of thread lock in sight. Nuts and bolts, plain washers and twin bent beam locknuts, ( Philidas )..... Would you care to comment on the use of locknuts, and why those were chosen over alternative methods of retention? I note with interest that Philidas reckon it is OK to fit their 'tur...

Re: Do you want to buy an electric car?

You now pay for all charging points. Any mode of transportation that relies on subsidies or complex financial structures (i.e. lies ) will never replace hydrocarbon fueled vehicles. After embracing all available technology I have reduced my annual business mileage to less than 80K .... hardly batter...

Re: Loctite advice please

Our latest project, traction control system for 220 Voyager, using sand as a medium to provide enhanced adhesion in both traction and braking modes is hardly "heavy engineering". Light precision eng is more like it ..... Guess what ? Not a drop of thread lock in sight. Nuts and bolts, plai...

Re: Visiting Recycling sites on a bike

Never been to a recycling site in Rotherham. I'm banned by council order. My people carrier is over 1.8 meters high. (Shared vehicle, me, wife, daughter and 3 grandkids, our only vehicle). The local lanes are eyesores due to fly tipped building rubbish ........ And the council does ..... nothing ......

Re: Towpath survey

I returned to cycling via the Chesterfield canal tow paths. The occasional anti motorcycle gate is easy to deal with, anglers poles across the towpath mean a stop and exchanged greetings, dog walkers with long leads ( I use one myself when walking Digby ), sometimes means stopping to prevent acciden...

If the battery was half the cost of petrol, no-one would buy a petrol car?

I think they would Mick, range will always be an issue.

Re: Do you share David Davies worry about the "children" from the holiday camp?

I won't repost Freddie's post in full but i think his comments are accurate and reflect certainly the thoughts of all of those at work and out that i have discussed it with. The "Luvvie" bandwagon is past our contempt, .. if Allen or Cumbererpatch want to actually do something they only ha...

Re: Do you share David Davies worry about the "children" from the holiday camp?

Why should we ever apologise for the actions of a foreign power, taking place on their sovereign territory. Let crying little rich girl Allen hand over her considerable personal fortune for the relief of these people. They are not refugees, they where at the country of their entry to the Schengen zo...
