Re: Cycling into the sun

Lets be honest, certain mags have been running "best lights" articles, most of these bike light sets cost more than my bike !!!!
A fool and his / her money ...etc.

Re: Steve abraham attempt

Does Tommy's bike meet UCI regulations for a competition bike ....does Steve's ?
Just a thought, someone is ratifying this record, they must have "bicycle" definitions.
Otherwise I'll do it on my VFR800 Honda. :)

Re: Do you wear a helmet?

The next time we see one of our "cycling warriors" riding along the road with a camera mounted on his helmet ask yourself what happened to Michael Schumacher ...
The helmet mounted camera was driven into his brain by the fall .....
What a loss... and I don't even like F1.
Styrene based helmets are not a good place to mount anything.
An entire generation of children and parents have fallen for the statement " helmets keep you safe" .
The ultimate "risk compensation" lie.
"I'm indestructible daddy, I'm wearing a helmet" ...
As they ride into the path of the HGV.
We're doomed...

Remember this old chestnut, "The safest car has no seat belts and a spike on the steering wheel" .
Risk Compensation Rule No. 1.

Re: Do you wear a helmet?

Frankly I'm fed up reading "helmet saved my life" stories in the letters pages of cycling mags. I recently crashed on ice, badly cut and bruised my hip. I wasn't wearing a helmet. So what !
It was my hip that was injured, but if an ambulance had been called it would have been recorded as a cycling accident without wearing a helmet.
utter rubbish! ! !

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

A bit of careful washing and the application of a water dispersal spray would seem reasonable. It's your bike, give it a cuddle. . With WD40 . . .

Re: Bent rear derailleur hanger

If a removable alloy hanger heat to 80 degrees c in the oven and hammer it flat on a steel surface. . Back of a vice is fine. If removable steel, hammer it flat. If integral steel drop out then use an adjustable spanner as a lever . . If you want a talk through drop me a pm. I've sorted this issue dozens of times.

Re: Broken chain

Do not use quick links. Get a riveting tool. In 45 years of cycling i have never had a chain break. It's hardly rocket science.

Re: How is the Local Bike Shop going to survive?

My LBS. Brake cable £7.99. Decathlon £1.99. I drive past decathlon 3 times a week as part of my work. I can also get top quality cycle clothes. Casual clothes for the family as well.
the LBS hasn't got a chance, which is a genuine shame.

Once upon a time in a forest far away... My wife and I parked the Datsun estate. Thetford Forest. Over come with passion we moved into the back of the estate. The windows misted up.
Some time later Jules wiped a gap in the moisture to discover an AFV parked about 10 meters away. The crew where sat on top waving. . Smiling. . They saw nothing through the misted windows.
Smiles and giggles all round . .

No harm.. Just great memories...
Love is not just cerebral. . . It's physical as well.
If you've forgotten that, god help you.

D & J ...(53 , 56 ) lovers for ever !

Jules has a "Pooh Bear" tattoo...somewhere...

Re: Cycling into the sun

The profit margins on cycling clothing and accessories is on average 5 x cost. Because people cannot understand the difference between cost and value. I wear a superb set of bib tights from Decathlon. £19.99. Yet in the magazines they do comparisons of £150 + products. . . If you will pay £2000+ for a bicycle you are fair game.
Sunglasses are are even worse the profits are massive, but as long as people will pay £100 for trainers that cost £0.40 to make (seriously) you deserve all you get.
Go to your local safety clothing company, get superb glasses, base layers, even walking trousers for a fraction of the cost

May help some, but please please don't assume that you can stare straight at the sun if you are wearing sunglasses. They afford insufficient protection from this and the result could be blindness. Proper solar filters, such as astronomers attach to their telescope objectives for solar viewing and imaging, are incredibly dense: you can see nothing through one except when looking at the sun.

If anyone on this forum is that stupid surely they would not be bright (sic) enough to actually cycle ... just a thought.
