Re: Braze-on Bosses For Centre-Pull Brakes

I've just got myself a 1989 bike made for canti's and was suprised to see thay they had only one adjustment / spring catch hole in them. I don't know if this is typical of studs for cantis as I've never had a frame for cantis before. I've had a few bikes with V brakes and they've always had 3 holes....

Re: Would an 8 speed screw on freewheel work on a 126mm OLN axle

I think this is the finished mod.

I've opted to hedge my bets and leave approx 4mm to get the freewheel removal tool in.

Possibly once I've used it and serviced it a couple of times I'll move it further outboard.

Thanks again all.

Re: Would an 8 speed screw on freewheel work on a 126mm OLN axle

rjb,
Actually if I'm being honest I think I copied your original post but it was from memory so I wasn't sure how to actualy implement it.

Thanks for suggesting checking the cone under the bearing.

I like this sort of mod especially when it keeps older kit running.

Re: Would an 8 speed screw on freewheel work on a 126mm OLN axle

Thanks Brucey and NA. I had a test fit last night and I realised that the existing axle spacers come in in two different sizes, 1 large and 2 smaller ones. If put the large one behind the bearing and against the cone the bearing sits slightly proud of the the freewheel by approx 2mm so hopefully not...

Re: Would an 8 speed screw on freewheel work on a 126mm OLN axle

Ta brucey, that's what I guessed. Not sure how I would accomplish moving the bearing more outwards whilst still being able to push it in when required. Could i jsut leave a space behind the bearing. I assumed I'd need something solid between the bearing and cone (like spacers) as when I tighten my Q...

Re: Would an 8 speed screw on freewheel work on a 126mm OLN axle

Resurrecting this thread to ask for advice please. I've put my new 7 speed freewheel on and took the opportunity to install an "outrigger" bearing, as advised various threads on here. It fitted without any tweaks at all! :) I can maniulate where the bearing sits, on the axle and subseqentl...

Re: Would an 8 speed screw on freewheel work on a 126mm OLN axle

Brucey, I think as per usual you're 100% correct re the cones. I'll definitely be trying to look after these and apply your tip re adjustment. Recently I put another set of hubs into a shop get some wheels made and set both the F + R like beforehand as being secondhand i wanted to ensure they were O...

Re: Would an 8 speed screw on freewheel work on a 126mm OLN axle

Thanks all esp Brucey. I'd forgotten about chain overhang at both sides and where the last sprocket would sit compared to where the thread ends, hence me coming here for sensible experienced advice! I suppose I might have to factor in some space for space for the outboard bearing as well but overall...

Would an 8 speed screw on freewheel work on a 126mm OLN axle

Hi I wonder if people could advise please. I recently had a nice part retro part mode set of wheels built that I intended to use as single speed. When I had them built I asked the wheel builder if he could spec the spokes to allow future re-dishing to multi speed freewheels, which he did by using sl...

Re: Frame Resprayer recommendation South East London ?

depending on how close you are to Vaz, I'd pop round and have a look at his work. I think he's really upped his game since starting Varohna Frameworks.

Re: Frame Resprayer recommendation South East London ?

There's a chap called either Mario or Winston Vaz in south east London, they're brothers one is paints and one makes and repairs frames. I think their business is called Varohna frameworks.

Good luck
