Re: Broken bar end shifter?

I can't answer your question but when I broke a bolt on my bar end shifters, I managed to get the individual spare part from Petra Cycles http://www.petracycles.co.uk/index.php . No connection to them, and I had to wait while for it to come in stock but much better than buying the whole bar end leve...

Re: bivy bags

am considering buying a Gelert Solo. (http://www.campmania.co.uk/Item-1-0-cat ... o_One.aspx) Nice and cheap and light. I do not expect it be a robust as Vango's etc but at the price for summer overnights it seem worth trying. Has anyone any experience? Don't do it - in my experience, the (too thin...

Re: Dura-ace bar end shifters

Apologies for delayed response - been on holiday for a few days. Thanks for all the suggestions. I think the mechanics of all this is getting somewhat beyond me though! The original intention was just to try and use up some bits and pieces without going to too much expense/hassle, so I like the idea...

Re: Dura-ace bar end shifters

Now that sounds like some fun experimenting to make that work!

Bits of milk carton and sticky backed plastic, here I come!

Re: Dura-ace bar end shifters

Thanks Si,

I thought it was a long shot. May use them in friction mode instead. Seems a shame to have them sitting on the shelf when they could be on bike 2 :D

Dura-ace bar end shifters

I have a spare set of 9-speed Dura-Ace bar end shifters.

Does anyone know if they will work in index mode with a 6 or 7 speed set-up?

Thanks,

Noel

Re: North Wales Coast

There is an old farm track across the marshes from Ness Gardens that comes out by the Flint Bridge. However, it is often closed when the firing range is in use!!! If open, it makes a great traffic free shortcut past the Queensferry Junction. Alternatively, you have to brave the A540 to Two Mills, tu...

Re: Pro Action Hike Lite 1 Person Tent

there was an extensive thread on this tent at the end of last summer. General concensus as I recall was that it was OK and stood up well to bad weather, but you probably wouldn't use it for "extreme" camping. That was from a spread of users on this and other backpacking forums. I bought on...

Re: Good one person tent for between £25- £50

Mike, in answer to your query about how big the Argos tent packs down to - I managed to get it packed back into the original bag quite easily - I'm going from memory, but it was something like 14" x 6" diameter. Dead easy to strap on the rear rack anyway. Nice coincidence that they came do...

Re: Good one person tent for between £25- £50

I bought the Gelert Solo a couple of years ago - it was very cheap, but also found that the fibreglass poles cracked the first time I used it. Almost every reference I have seen to this tent refers to the same problem. I got a refund and last year bought this tent http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produ...

I agree about the suspension frame and disc brakes. I have one of the 2006 Discovery 501's and it is a cracking bike for the sort of rides you describe. You can still get the 2007 model which didn't have suspension etc e.g. here http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/14401/Dawes_Discovery_501_Bik...

...what lever to use with canti brakes and drop bars?

Hi - yet another plea for advice. Just building up an old 531 frame for Audaxing/Day rides. I have some new Tektro Oryx cantilever brakes (seen some fairly poor reviews of these since I git them but I'll try them and see how I get on.) I will be using drop bars - are Shimano R400 or R600 levers OK t...

Thanks for that Gaz. The part number has allowed me to track down a couple of suppliers, though both out of stock at the moment.
