Re: Abusive drivers

It got me thinking. If the police do nothing when an incident is reported does that then encourage cyclists to be say……..less than courteous when catching up with said driver at the traffic lights for example. A little kicking of the door?? Crime against property (especially someone's pride-n-joy c...

Re: Abused For Defending a Group of Cyclist's Whilst Driving

It appears that many motorists treat the white dashes in the middle of the road as an obstacle that commands more respect than a human-being in their lane, either a pedestrian or cyclist or two. After all, drivers frequently encounter cars coming the other way, so crossing the white line is a real, ...

Re: Worst youtube clip i've seen...

Or looked for cars and didn't see the bike at all. One of the cars that pulled out in front of me had a dozy driver who I don't think saw me until I was braking 10 feet from her window and shouting. The look of suprised shock when she realised she had nearly hit me told me that. I had something sim...

Re: A place to record cyclists using trains

Last Saturday, I took my belt-drive Trek for a jaunt: 0610 Derby to Birmingham on a Voyager. Seconds before departure, another cyclist arrives and leaps on. We chat on the arrival to New Street. I ride the short tunnel to Moor Street, and a minute or two later, the same cyclist arrives on the platfo...

Participants should be aware that cycling both on and off-road AT THE SAME TIME is a potentially dangerous activity

Re: Ice!

I rode from Haddenham & Thame Parkway station to Oxford yesterday morning (my alternative to the "rail replacement bus service"!), and had to walk for short sections because of ice, and nearly fell over when just walking. So when I rode over a bridge over the M40, I kept on the dry/non...

Re: "I pay road tax" cycling jersey

When the previous fuel crisis occurred, I decided it was time to put my creative skills to the test, and I designed a T-shirt. Top line - cartoon-style drawing of a car facing to the left, with three clouds of exhaust, getting progressively bigger towards the right. The last cloud had a £ sign in. C...

Re: Cycling plan to blame drivers for all crashes

This also reminds me of the man I pass each morning, going the other way through Midgham on a pretty serious piece of kit, cycling on the pedestrian footpath. He is appropriately dressed in cyclists garb, so he must be a regular rider. I do wonder if I should stop him and say, “The Newspapers are h...

Been There, Seen the sunset (from the Tor), Posted it all on the interwebs. The ride reports are on the last two pages of that thread. At one stage in our nocturnal journey, we met evidence of the Festival itself, where certain roads were blocked off, with junctions lit by enormous "daylight-on...

Re: Ghost bike for Marie Vesco

Oh and I love this comment someone added to that news story in the Argus: So, do you think the Cenotaph should be knocked down? After all, it's a memorial and it's right in the middle of a road... And the soldiers commemorated by the Cenotaph weren't killed in Whitehall! (Mind you, perhaps the deci...

Re: Hit and run

The bridge where Hills Road crosses the railway line has been an accident black-spot for months. Cambridge Cycling Campaign have a lot to say on the matter. I'd be interested to find out if this collision happened there, or on some other part of Hills Road. I moved away from Cambridge 20 years ago, ...

Re: Road Tax....

Another factor to consider is that the damage to a road surface is proportional to the fifth power of the axle load. So if you double the vehicle's weight (with the same number of wheels), then it does 32 times more damage to the road. Now if someone wants me to pay for my bike's proportion of tarma...

Re: I DID NOT HEAR YOU

A year or two ago, I was turning left at a traffic-light-controlled junction, and, (therefore by definition), my light was green. So the pedestrian crossing the road that I was turning in to was confronted with a RED light. I'd realised he'd stepped out without looking, so I changed course to go beh...

Re: ASL Enforcement Petition....

Sorry, not signing. ASLs are unworkable in their present form. THE TRAFFIC SIGNS REGULATIONS AND GENERAL DIRECTIONS (TSRGD) 2002 states: All vehicles are required to stop at any stop line when a red signal is showing, or, if they can safely stop, an amber one. If an ASL is provided, all vehicles mus...
